so what type of non prescription stuff would you recommend to try for someone suffereing from apparent allergies?

i don't have health insurance, so non prescription is key.

Claritin works well for me if I take it before the symptoms start to get bad.

Used to get it bad but haven't suffered from it for ages. There is something you can take which works for a week instead of a few hours, I forget what it's called though. I'll ask about it.

Exactly. Once you're suffering from an attack, it takes a while to get it under control. You're better off with a preventative dose before exposure. Benadryl is used by some doctors to stop an allergic reaction after receiving immuno-therapy. When I ran out of Zyrtec, that was my choice. Unfortunately, tiredness hit me like a brick wall during the evening. But it worked.

Claritin used to be prescription, until the drug manufacturer realized more profit could be made if it went over-the counter, and so lobbied the FDA to change the drug's status. Then they went and introduced prescription Clarinex, which must be a similar formula, because it's as effective as Claritin for me.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the joys of post nasal drip, and that metallic taste that doesn't go away....

Uh-oh!

OMFG

But on the upside...

According to the Mirror last week, a Japanese study has indicated that 30-minutes of passionate kissing can help with the body's reaction to pollen.

May need some assistance over here. ;)

Rob has horrible allergies, and this year has been really bad. Everything is coated in yellow pollen dust.

I've been on the couch for a week ortwo because he coughs, sneezes and snores all night with the congestion. Maybe I'll just smother him with the pillow.

Every morning I wake up with my eyes burning.

The rest of the day I have sinus drainage.

Yay allergies!

I think I should move back up north...I didn't have problems there.

Sounds like you may be allergic to dust mites. Try getting a new pillow and washing the bed linens really well. And maybe try vacuuming the bed. Or just take a pill before you go to sleep.

Thanks for the tip! I generally wash the linens every few weeks, but San Antonio is quite dusty (my poor asthma can attest to that). I'll try vacuuming the bed this weekend.

And if you haven't replaced the pillow in a while, now would be a good time. Figure you're breathing in whatever's on the pillow all night long....

I know how you feel. My allergies kicked in 2 week ago. Luckly its been damp here since monday week so its not that bad.

My dads black car last week was yellow.

I'm a very silly little boy. Every year I say "I'm going to fight this", then end up without a strengthened tolerance so it hits me. Itching eyes, sneezing (I actually enjoy that :) ). This year I've been getting an itchy FACE and the roof of my mouth too. Just don't get it.

such a pain  I had to stop taking Mizolen (I think it's called) because it made me reaaally drowsy. on some weaker stuff but still everything burns and itches.

more reason to get out of this country to Spain, France or Poland. I never get it abroad. a hayfever free summer would be heaven.
