Hi,

I’ve just released SnipNotes 5, a major update for my note-taking app. It includes some of the most frequently requested features like subcategories and iCloud synchronization on Apple Watch. This new update also merges the iOS and macOS versions of SnipNotes to allow for shared purchases. Here is an overview of what’s new:

snipnotes5_en.png

  • You can now organize your notes with subcategories. The category list has a new look and a few new features. For example, you can collapse the trash or your categories to save space. Protected categories will show a little lock icon.
  • You can now choose from a huge selection of modern icons when creating new categories. A search field helps you find the right icon for your category. The same selection of icons is available for your notes as well.
  • SnipNotes on Apple Watch will now synchronize directly with iCloud, which should improve reliability. Notes from your other devices are downloaded directly to your watch without having to open SnipNotes on your iPhone first.
  • On Mac, you can now integrate SnipNotes into your shortcuts. Create notes and categories, append text to notes, open notes, and much more.
  • SnipNotes is now translated into a total of 10 languages: Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish.
  • New users can unlock SnipNotes with a single in-app purchase for iOS and Mac. Both apps are available as a free download on the App Store.
Subcategories require a one-time upgrade for existing customers within the app. This purchase unlocks the feature for both iOS and macOS. If you have purchased SnipNotes Plus after January 1, 2023, you will automatically gain access to subcategories. All other new features are available free of charge for existing customers.

The new update is now available on the App Store. To enable shared purchases for iOS and macOS, I had to release a new app on the Mac App Store. Instructions on how to migrate to the new version can be found here. Your notes and purchases will be automatically transferred to the new app.

I'm happy to answer any questions or suggestions. Please feel free to reply to this thread.

Love the app but still anxiously waiting for two features for it to become my go to app…

Add links to pdf files
Add ability to add tables in notes

Are these features being considered in the near future?

Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thank you! 😊 Yes, both features are on my roadmap. Tables are probably farther into the future because they are hard to implement in Markdown (which SnipNotes uses for storage).

Hi,

I've just released SnipNotes 6, a major update for my note-taking app. It includes some of the most frequently requested features like file attachments and drawing support, making notes more comprehensive and versatile than ever before. Here's what's new:

📎 File Attachments: You can now attach various file types including PDFs, text files, and videos to your notes. Adding files is effortless with drag & drop, clipboard, share sheet, or the built-in file picker. Perfect for attaching recipes, tickets or important documents to the appropriate notes.

🎨 Drawings: Native drawing capabilities on iPhone and iPad let you sketch ideas, create diagrams, or add visual annotations using your finger or Apple Pencil. Drawings sync across all devices and can be viewed on Mac alongside other note content.

🔦 Text Highlighting: Building on the existing formatting options, SnipNotes 6 introduces a new text highlighting style that gives you even more ways to emphasize important information and express your thoughts. This new option complements the existing formatting tools and helps you create notes that are not only informative, but also visually appealing and easy to scan.

SnipNotes continues to use a fair purchase model without requiring any subscriptions. File attachments and drawing capabilities require a one-time upgrade, which is automatically unlocked for everyone who has purchased SnipNotes Plus in the past three months. The new text highlighting style is available to all users at no additional cost.

The new update maintains compatibility with all operating systems and supports versions starting from iOS 15, macOS 12, and watchOS 8.

The update is now available as a free download on the App Store.

Hi,

I've just released SnipNotes 6.2, a major update for my note-taking app. It introduces one of the most frequently requested features: Note Tags — a flexible new way to organize your notes alongside categories. Here's what's new:

🏷️ Note Tags: You can now add colorful tags to any note for flexible, multi-dimensional organization. While categories work like folders (each note in one place), tags let you label notes freely — a recipe in "Cooking" can also be tagged "vegetarian", "quick-meals", and "favorites". Tags appear as colored chips in your note list, so you can spot relevant notes at a glance.

🎨 12 Tag Colors: Each tag can be customized with one of 12 colors, making it easy to visually distinguish between different types of labels.

📱 Easy to Use: Add tags via the context menu, the "..." button, or drag & drop onto tags in the sidebar. You can even select multiple notes and manage their tags all at once. Browse all notes with a specific tag by selecting it in the sidebar — just like a category.

⌚ Apple Watch: Choose which tags to sync to your Apple Watch independently from categories, giving you more control over what's available on your wrist.

☁️ Seamless Sync: Tags sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so your organization stays consistent everywhere.

Note Tags is available as a one-time upgrade for $4.99. If you purchased SnipNotes Plus after October 1, 2025, you already have access — no additional purchase required. SnipNotes continues to use a fair purchase model without requiring any subscriptions.

The update maintains compatibility with all operating systems and supports versions starting from iOS 15, macOS 12, and watchOS 8.

The update is now available as a free download on the App Store.

Hi,

I've just released SnipNotes 6.4, a major update for my note-taking app. It introduces Voice Recordings — a new way to capture ideas when typing isn’t convenient. You can save audio directly inside your notes, play it back later, and on supported devices, turn recordings into transcripts, summaries, and action items.

snipnotes-voice-recordings-en.png

  • 🎙️ Voice Recordings: You can now record audio directly in SnipNotes and save it as part of your notes. This is useful for quick thoughts while walking, meeting takeaways, personal memos, or any moment where speaking is easier than typing.
  • 📝 Transcription: On supported devices, SnipNotes can turn your recordings into text. You can copy or share the transcript, save it as a new note, or add it back to the original note.
  • ✨ Summaries & Action Items: SnipNotes can also generate summaries from your transcripts, including key points and action items. This helps turn a quick voice memo into something easier to review, organize, or follow up on.
  • 📱 iPhone, iPad & Mac: Recording and playback are available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Transcription requires iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later.
  • ☁️ iCloud Sync: Voice recordings stay connected to your notes and sync through your private iCloud account when iCloud sync is enabled.
Classic dictation remains available for users on older OS versions or those who prefer quickly turning speech directly into text. Voice Recordings are the new, more flexible workflow for spoken notes in SnipNotes.

Voice Recordings are available as a one-time upgrade for $4.99 USD. If you purchased SnipNotes Plus on or after March 1, 2026, you already have access — no additional purchase required. SnipNotes Plus subscribers also get automatic access to this and upcoming features.

SnipNotes continues to offer both one-time purchases and an optional subscription for users who prefer access to all current and upcoming features.

The update is now available as a free download on the App Store. The Mac version is still awaiting Apple’s approval and should be available shortly on the Mac App Store.

You can learn more about Voice Recordings in this blog post.
