This is a silly question, but is Snow Leopard an update to 10.5 Leopard or a new OS altogether (buy new OS disc).?

As discussed in other threads it is 10.6. And it will almost certainly not be free.

It's somewhere in the middle of an upgrade and a new OS.

Snow Leopard is a major upgrade (10.5 up to 10.6) for OS X and therefore incurs a fee (i.e. you pay $129 and get a new disc).

The term "New OS" is kind of hard to define as veteran and novices computer users could interpret this term very differently.

I'm still skeptical that they'll charge full price for it, but we shall see. Difficult to market.
