I posted earlier and it was reccomended to do a safe boot.. Well, for some reason my password wouldnt register, so I just bought an external drive..

I'm attempting to install 10.6 from an external drive. First it was 10.5 but I had a disk error, so I found 10.6 and other error occured. I decided to go the route of a clean install, so I erased my harddrive and when I go to install an error pops up.

Install Failed- Mac OSX could not be installed on you computer- The installer could not copy the neccessary support files.

What should I do. I can only forsee a few options, one is to get my opitical drive replaced and install that way, another is give my harddrive to a friend and have it be installed on the harddrive from a differnt computer. Could I mount it to a usb and install from my corrupt firewire drive?

Would it be possible to install Snow leopard via my USB DVD drive? It seems to start fine, but mid way through the error occurs.
