I got this circle spinning on boot as usual, but after I while there is progress bar which is really going slow. When it finishes it dissapears and OS is loading normally. What's that ?

A new self check ? How to turn it off ?

I am probably wrong...

My Macbook Pro does this when returning from sleep when in low power? Hibernation?

I have the same issue when I start from OFF and it's really a pain in the A. Dos it every time - takes about 5 - 10 minutes. Really lame!

i get that on my Snowleopard MacBook Pro

looks like this:

Not hibernation, as it happens at start up on my end (& not the resume form drained battery etc)
bootcamp, windows, or any other OS installed.
happens on a clean non-upgrade install of SL

i initially see the progres sbar when booting into Safemode once.
