I had heard conflicting information regarding Exchange 2003 support, but I am thoroughly disappointed that it does not work. Why can my iPhone connect flawlessly but my Mac cannot?

Exchange 2003 uses Active sync, 2007 & 2008 use Exchange Web Services (EWS).

Iphones use activesync and work well, Snow Leopard uses EWS.

I too was looking forward to getting SL for all our Mac users, so the whole company could finally use the same mail cals & contacts, but as usual, 'someone' messes it up for the majority.... why didnt they stick with active sync, as a LOT of companies, us included, are staying with 2003. It works, is stable, and does not require stupid money and hassle just to get the latest Microsoft offering. (I have stayed with XP companywide too)

The silly thing is, exchange 2007 & 2008 ALSO have active sync (as far as I have read) ?!? but EWS is supposed to be better.

SL will connect to EX2003, but only using IMAP, so pretty useless and no cals or contacts, only mailbox view. Dont waste your time trying to get SL's exchange connector to work on 2003, it wont.

Staying with EXCH 2003 here. No plans to upgrade to 2007 or 2010 anytime soon.

2003 is stable for us. Would have been nice to have had SL support both EWS and ActiveSync.

Seems odd that iPhones still support ActiveSync yet the SL supports only EWS.

Yep, you and many many more feel the same. An opportunity arises for MS and Apple to give us, their USERS what they want, and they mess it up between them ... DeJaVue ?

In reality what this does is negates any point in (us) upgrading to SL or above without a very good reason, as we will not be changing our windows servers for several years hopefully, and we are not prepared to loose our current mail setups, (entourage mainly, nothing 'better' around)

Come on Apple AND Microsoft, stop playing stupid power games and give us, your USERS what they want! Ease of use among the popular platforms (not nessesarily the best, but the popular, before any mac/ms wars start :) )

Another thought, which I cant answer, does the Iphone connect to an exchange EWS server? or will you loose iphone connectivity if you go to exchange 2007/8/10?

The most logical solution would be for apple to include both EWS and AS. call me silly, but that doesnt seem too hard considering they already have them both on each of SL and Iphone?

Just saw this comment, you've used Entourage 2008 and it only works through IMAP?

Update: apparently nothing has changed, here's an interesting article on the history:

Sorry, I was unclear grammatically on my previous post. Entourage 2008 works fully meaning I get the Global Address List, Calendars, and Mail Syncing. Then, on a separate note, I am able to get the Mail.app to connect using IMAP, but only get mailbox syncing. Sorry for the confusion.
