When I go to the up to date program, it says, "if you purchased a mac directly from the online store, chose one of these links." Under it is one labeled "us costumers (that's me!). When I click on it, it asks me to log in. I do so, and it takes me to an empty cart. I have cookies enabled, which is the only solution they provide on that page. Even if I log into my Apple ID beforehand, it still asks me to log in, then brings me to the empty cart anyway.

The thing is, before I got my new MBP (which I needed to serial number from), I got to the page that asked me to enter the number to complete registration. Now I can't seem to get back to it.

why are you trying to register now. Are you supposed to do it as soon as you get your computer? Shouldn't you just wait for snow leopard to come out?

As I understood it, all Leopard users will get Snow Leopard for 29.99. However, if you preorder it within 90 days of buying a new computer, up until Snow Leopard comes out, you get it for 9.99

Apple Insider

Customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac computer (list of models) or a qualifying Apple Certified Refurbished computer (list of models) on or after June 8, 2009 that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard can upgrade to Snow Leopard for $9.95 plus tax.

To participate, your completed order form must be postmarked or faxed within 90 days of the date of your purchase of the qualifying Mac or by December 26, 2009, whichever is earlier.

I just got my new MBP (which qualifies), so I wanted in on this deal.

Sure sounds cookie related.

Login to your machine as "Guest". Go to the link. I'll bet you can order it with no problem.

If so, delete the Apple store related cookie(s).

GOOD LUCK!

I tried this 5 times over the last 3 days and each time it showed an empty cart.
Well last night I went to order something from Apple and went I got to check out it listed SIX upgrades. I changed it to one and when I checked out it said I wasn't eligible because I had ordered it 6 times already.

Something whacky about that system.

I bought a qualifying mac from the online store last week and I get the same screen you do. It's broken or just hasn't been set up yet. Three months for me puts me at about September 20th. Lets see if this gets taken care of in the next 2 weeks. Lots of Apple employees are on vacation this week. Maybe the one who was setting this up will finish the job when he returns.

Use the Apple Retail Store option. Choose one store nearest to you and input your serial number and model. I tried with the online store and got the same empty cart. My $9.99 SL is now in my order list.

Thanks :D

I ordered my mac online and had the basket issue. After following the retail store option link i just put "Apple Store" in the store name and it verified my serial number successfully. Snow Leopard is now on its way to me for £7.95!
