i'm thinking the option for me might be the base refurb 15" retina. i'm surprised the refurb pricing's stayed the same at $1599, but i still think it's good value.

I'm getting the 2.4/8/256 with the education discount. I was planning to get the 8/256 anyway, but the price chop makes it better :)

i was about to get the base model at first, but from hearing some advice here.. i believe that config you're choosing is the better value, and something i wouldn't regret in the long run.

question.. do you know if you could you order online with the education discount, but just pick it up right away from a local store with that config? i assume apple treats that as another base config, so hoping all local stores would keep them in stock.

I'm not positive, but that's what I'm planning on doing. They're available for store pickup through the regular online store, so I assume you can do it through the education store as well.

I want to see geekbench scores - then I can figure out which option to buy. To me, this 13" is a great combination between size and performance... Plus, you can hook it up to up to three external monitors.

The only thing that I'd like more is a 12" Air with retina.

They are starting to show up:

- i7-4960HQ @ 2.6 GHz: Single-Core 3379, Multi-Core 12813

13-inch with dual-core CPU:
- i5-4258U @ 2.4 GHz: Single-Core 2613, Multi-Core 5248
- i5-4288U @ 2.6 GHz: Single-Core 2856, Multi-Core 5954
- i7-4558U @ 2.8 GHz: Single-Core 3000, Multi-Core 6189

I'm really curious to see video benchmarks comparing last year's 13" HD 4000 with the Haswell Iris 5100...

I ordered the 13" 2.4Ghz/8GB/256SSD version for 1499€ here in Germany, with Apple on Campus discount this went down to 1300€. At this price i didn't hesitate ordering one. It's my first Mac :D

But i think that's the best deal you can make for a Apple laptop.

Just a heads up, if you plan to do any video editing on this model (I just picked on up), it is barely faster at encoding videos from Adobe Premiere compared to me base 20130 Macbook air.

I'd argue that your best buy remains the 15" refurb of the June 2012 model at $1599.
