Hi All,

I just wanted to confirm an overall impression. I have not done a deep dive but at first glance it seems like Apple focused on screen for the seven and kept the guts of six? I find the screen etc impressive don't get me wrong, but I'm getting my girlfriend an Apple Watch and am leaning towards a six (140 bucks off of list price). She would like to use it for workouts some music, apple pay and checking calls/notifications. She has a "normal" watch so this would not be her "full time" timepiece. I was thinking about an SE but liked that the internals of the six are newer and as such might serve her longer. I waited for the seven to see if they added some interesting health sensors but I didn't see anything. Charging, bigger screen etc are impressive just not fit for her needs.

The one question that might swing it to a seven, does the AW 7 have anything new in regards to find me/apple tags? She adores the precise tracking paired with her iPhone 12 and airtags on her keys (has saved my sanity). Can the new Apple watch initiate and show the precise tracking like the iPhone?

Finally am I completely missing something that would swing pendulum to a seven? It seems obvious that the case redesign is part of Apple's plan to create more space for future sensors, so I could see us upgrading soon depending on what comes out in 2022/2023.

Cheers Philly

You can say that. 😀

Keeps in mind that S7 has the same U1 chip as S6 so anything in the future related to AirTag software wise should come to S6 as well.

Sounds like you’d be better off with S6.

Thanks, that was the info I was looking for I hadn’t seen anything about which chip they were using for the feature. So U1 takes care of that.

Unless Apple chooses to limit hardware compatibility by generation to drive upgrade sales.

Both excellent points. Nothing I can do about Apple only supporting certain models. My guess is they would restrict new features like that though to new models (2022) and ahead. In that case it wouldn’t make a difference if it was a six or seven!

I could see that the fast charging might require some different battery composition and/or some heat related changes. I’d be shocked if all it took fir a six to benefit from it was just a different cable. I’ll see if when reviewers start posting articles if they mention that piece of it.

Actually I can get an A6 brand new for same price as se (cell compatible). That is what I ended up doing. Thank you for clarifying/answering my questions
