Not much risk these days with Swappa.

I did the same with Verizon, but you also need a tablet to activate, that's constantly purchasing (and possibly returning) a Cellular tablet to activate. It gets pretty old.

And it's only $110 difference with just terminating the line @ $350 termination fee immediately after you add the line.

The new Apple program is convenient and fairly cost effective if you tend to get Applecare + every year.

To each their own but why would you not want to sell for as much as possible, I think gazelle and all these sites are the biggest ripoff. You in fact on CL cannot find a nice iPhone 6 64gb for 500, very few out there for 400

well, I think pretty much anyone would like to sell for as much as possible to minimize the loss, but my point is that based on what I looked into, the difference between selling 6s and buying 7 this time next year vs upgrade program - if you want to indeed trade to 7 next year - was almost nothing (after factoring in the effort/time of selling).

I do agree selling less than 1 year old unlocked iphone in good condition to sites like gazelle seem to be a bad deal unless you have a 16gb version. You can't even get 50% back of retail price off those sites for 64gb and 128gb.

It's just that for the time and effort you'd have to put on ebay (+huge fees) and craigslist (can be shady, more effort), it has to be at least $100-150 difference in profit over getting the upgrade program to make sense to many. And to do that, one has to be able to sell unlocked 6s 64gb for $500 minimum. You definitely can't get $500 off ebay for iphone 6 64gb now, so the only way is off craigslist and I just don't see that you can easily sell for $500 right now (thus the same for 6s 64gb next year).

I think this selling 6s/buying 7 make the most sense if you are getting 16gb version as it seems like you can get the most back from that over your initial investment. 64gb and 128gb, not so much. Those two may be more desirable, but due to initial higher cost, you don't get back as much by selling.

FYI, I am comparing buying full priced iphone 6s only and selling vs upgrade program. Some folks in this thread seem to talk about getting the phone with some discount via their existing account with a carrier, which may or may not come out better vs upgrade program due to the discount they get.

Take the new iPhone off of the line and replace it with a tablet. This reduces the monthly cost from $40/month to $10/month as the line switches to a tablet line. Then just pay off $10/month over 24 months and the contract is fulfilled.

Don't you end up having to get another, second tablet line at $10/month when you upgrade after 12 months, which would blow your math?

It seems to be pretty straight forward. It only seems like a bad deal in my eyes if you don't trade in after 12 months. Otherwise it makes no sense. That's why they've marketed it as the upgrade program. If you want to keep this phone this would be a insane thing to sign up for.

Why would it be insane? It's a 0% interest loan for 24 months. You can pay the phone off in full after 12 months and then sell it or keep it if you want.

True. But if your planning on keeping it for 2 years you should just go thru a carrier and sign a 2 year contract. It would be cheaper for you in that situation.

As has been said in many threads recently. This isn't true for everybody, especially if you're on mobile share. Then you are paying 199 + 25 X 24 = 799 for a 16gb iPhone. Not cheaper.

No, because each phone still ends up being a maximum of + $300 over contract price vs $450.

649 + taxes + 130 for apple care that they force you to get. It is cheaper.
