I just ordered an SS AW3 last night through the Apple Store app and I was wondering if Verizon customers are still having issues activating service. Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I activated this morning over the phone. It worked fine. One suggestion. If you call them, don’t do it on the phone attached to the watch. Once they activate, they ask you to verify, and there is no way to force the watch to use cellular if the phone is in range.

I was able activate via the Watch app while standing in Best Buy yesterday evening.

Well that’s awesome. Hopefully they have worked out the bugs then. Thanks.

I activated AW3 in minutes at home with Verizon. Things I think helped:

    1) Call before you start activating and verify that your account is ready to add the watch. My account was only eligible for two devices and I already had a phone and tablet on the account. I had read the activation instructions and it said check on this first. The rep changed my account to accommodate 3 devices. Had I not done this first, the activation would have failed.

    2) You will need to sign into Verizon mobile app during the cellular setup. If you don’t have a password already, download the app on your phone and register for a password. I did this right before I started. The password I created worked during cellular setup not my password used when signing in on their website.

    3) Getting your AW3 working is a two step process. You activate then set up cellular. Read how both are done right here before you start. https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/apple-watch-series-3/

The only problem I have experienced is my messages keep failing to send. I’m trying to resolve on my own and have not determined why they fail. I soon will probably call Apple.

Thank you very much. This will be very helpful when I get the watch. I only have my 8+ on my account and it’s the new unlimited plan. Did you buy the AW3 from Apple or Verizon?

Neither. I bought it from Best Buy because they had it immediately available.

BTW. I just got off the phone with Apple to fix my messaging problem. They are having me restore my phone from backup to see if that solves the problem. They said the watch sends messages through the phone and they think my phone has a problem.

Do you do iTunes or iCloud backup?

I have iCloud backup but the rep asked me to do an iTunes backup on my MacBook just for this one time. I’m guessing it will be faster. Right now it says the restore will be finished in 15 minutes so I don’t have long to go.

Yeah I have always used iTunes for updates for just that reason. Much faster and less chance of corrupted files. Good luck

Apple technical support had me try several possible resolutions, including restoring phone. None worked. So, the technician gave me a case number and said the engineers will go to work on this problem. He also stated that more people than myself have called-in this problem.

At first I was not able to send any messages using the watch. Then after re-booting the watch the messages went through; however, the watch kept stating the messages fail to send. I doubled-checked with the receipiants and they did receive the messages. Also, my phone showed that the messages were sent.

I tried several more times and the same thing kept occurring. The watch showed the messages fail but the phone said they didn't fail.

Sounds like a communication error between the phone and the watch. Hopefully a software update can resolve the conflict. I’m hoping by the time I get the watch the new update will be out.
