I do wonder what Apple plans for the macbook air, as when the Neo gets 12 GB of RAM next cycle, the Air is in this precarious position where its probably way more machine than casual users need, and if you’re doing properly heavy workload you probably should step to a Pro.

Then again, the cost to step up to a pro is not insignificant.

Maybe the next Macbook air will focus again on thin-ness and lightness. Because right now i feel its just sort of in this middle ground where its overkill for most people but for those who need power (i.e., using the machine to make money)… a macbook pro offers significantly more.

I think Neo is Budget / Basic computing
The Air is the Prosumer option and for people who need decent power but don't want to lug around the weight of the Pro
Then the Pro is for people where absolute power is the priority

I can see Apple giving the Air a better screen in the future and also upping the price a little as they don't need to hit that budget entry price point anymore and im more then happy for that to happen as the display is the Airs only real weakness imo.

This is the logical breakdown.

It’s a bit like a Venn diagram tho. I know first hand from my personal experiences that there is a significant portion who buy pro because it is supposed to indicate top tier ownership of the best of the best. You especially see this in iPad purchases but also in laptop.

Yah, I see lots of people who can afford to buy a Pro model Apple device so that they can show it off but never use it for pro features.

I am too old for the competing with the "Jones'" next door.

I buy for what I want for MY needs.

Neo fits in just right for a fun device to take along MY travels.
Air iPhone fits just right for MY phone needs.

I wonder if they willl make the M6 version slimmer and lighter for further differentiation too.

Absolutely this. I 'downgraded' to iPhone 17 and the Watch SE this year. Both top notch devices, hasn't made a jot of difference to my usage, realised I was wasting money buying the other model.

Bought this M1 Pro during Covid, so I was a bit 'I'm just buying the most expensive one', but I don't need the Pro spec in my casual usage.

I do travel a lot, so going to split the money into a Neo and an iPad Mini, instead of a MacBook Air this time around.

Absolutely, part of me wanted to get a Pro just for the better display but the Airs Lightness is a big selling point. If Apple give the Air a better display it would be the ultimate Laptop for 90 percent of people.

Yep, I’m perfectly happy with my MacBook Neo. It’s doing exactly what I wanted - a supplemental Mac to my Mac Studio that is very portable and cheap. Spending more for a MacBook Air would have deleted the whole purpose of ‘cheap’.

I am happy with the MacBook Neo. I wish it was lighter, but I already knew that. Also it is annoying I can’t type in the dark (I can, but it is a pain when I get the key wrong). Minor issues.

I am not happy with macOS Tahoe, urgh! Really hope the next version is better. 😅

Just returned my Citrus Neo.
Apple store asked why the return and I said it's the color - way too bright.
Keeping my Indigo instead.

I've had my Indigo 512GB Neo just short of a week now and I'm loving it. As I've posted before, I'm 74 and this is what I could afford. Apple really did a great job with this. The Neo came along just at the right time for me. I have an ancient Air - the coating on the keys is wearing off due to years of heavy use.

I'm 74 as well. Have the Neo and a M4 MacBook Pro. I'm on the Neo more.

Have the indigo 512 as well. Lots of computers in the house. First Mac.

Same I ended up keeping Citrus 512 GB and happy with my choice, fun color and keyboard pops out enough without backlight.

To each his own as color is personal choice. Never thought I'd own an orange iPhone but here we are. 😂

Yep, really pleased.
I use a MacBook to browse the internet, watch YT videos, maintain spreadsheets for monthly budgets, send emails when I don't want to type on my phone.
It's the perfect machine for me.

The only thing I miss are backlit keys versus other MacBooks, but I can't get other MB's in a sexy citrus colour, so ya win some ya lose some. 😀

I don't push my Neo too hard. The only third party software I have on it are my Epson software and Outlook. I've always been one to close programs, windows and tabs that aren't being used. This goes well with the Neo and its 8 GB of RAM.

I have always done this as well, i like to work cleanly and efficiently. Having heaps of Tabs open makes things messy and with the speed of internet these days there is really no need for it. I also apply the same mantra at work on my production Mac Studio, even with 32gb of ram i close what i dont need which keeps the system running smoothly.

I am very bad at housekeeping and have hundreds of Safari tabs open, a ballooning mailbox, etc. The Neo handles it.
Tahoe: it is full of little glitches and poor design. Don’t know how you can call it awesome, what does it do for you?
