I have no problem with anyones personal preference but in my opinion you and the OP need to better understand how processors work. The difference that 233mhz means is almost negligible in real world performance.

I'm glad you are both happy with your faster processor but I would hate for a newbie to come on here and read this and get the wrong ideas. Anandtech has some great articles on processors and SSD. Makes for a great read!

266 not 233

You guys are brutal! Hilarious...damn, let him enjoy his computer for a while! There is a 10% processor speed increase, that is a real world difference for sure. Whether or not he it utilizes the power is another story. BUT, it is a REAL speed difference, NOT marketing Hype! Unreal....

OP, I think sometimes, some folks are jealous of others;)

Enjoy your computer, that is a Bad Ass machine bud!

Take care

Jer

I think people are responding to the OP because he posed the question as a thread and then in his original post is making claims how much faster it is and something to the effect of "don't believe anyone that tells you it's just 10%" umm well that is all it is. Until I followed the thread and read "oh btw I did have the 2.66 with a 5400 rpm drive and now the new 2.93 has a 7200 rpm drive. Ohhhh really? Well that may have something to do with it:rolleyes:.

I don't care how he spends his money and far from jealous, people respond with their opinions, he did post his on a tech forums, it's kind of expected :)

I still would recommend from personal experience with an SSD, it will provide more "bang for the buck" then the processor bump. He does however make a solid and true point. The processor can only be chosen at the time of purchase, the SSD can be installed anytime in the future. Although, my thinking is I"ll upgrade to the new 32nm C2D next year so no use in spending $300 bucks on something I can't migrate over to a new machine as I could move my SSD easily. :)

thanks

The reason i started this thread was to let people know about my experience with both the stock 17" and the high end BTO machine. I would just like to say thanks for those of you who are positive about me sharing my experience with the 2 machines, and to those of you who think that i am brainwashed by numbers and $$ of a computer thinking wow, it must be faster cuz it is more expensive and it says 2.93 vs 2.66 in the about this mac window!! lol I NOTICED A PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE IN THE FASTER MACHINE!! if i didn't i would have not started this thread, and i would probably return the mbp and go back down to my original 2.66 configuration! and saved myself that $270 dollars. (student discount) :p
My main purpose for starting this thread was to 1. share my excitement about my new machine and 2. to let people who can't decide between the two that you will NOT regret upgrading the processor, however you may regret not upgrading the processor somewhere down the road.

To those of you who say that there is no real speed difference in real world use i would just like to say, your wrong there is a difference! this is why i am holding on to my 2.93 and not going back down to the 2.66. i realize the HD makes a huge difference in some areas but a lot of the time it is the simple fact that my processor can allow my machine to render and process multiple plugins/effects at a faster rate then my previous 2.66. this is not bull or some placebo whatever..it is a simple fact!!:D

Both of my machines were connected though firewire 800 to a external 1TB 7200RPM. so files were being taken and saved from that drive. Not he internal drive. So both machines where using the same firewire drive.

thanks and i hope this thread will help the people who were in the same boat i was in make there final choice the first time rather then after the fact like i did.
