Per this video and review I won’t be able take a picture of let’s say flowers, and make the background blurry? Correct?
Only pictures of people will allow for this on iPhone xr?

Yes, this is correct. But taking pictures of random stuff in portrait mode to be artsy on Instagram is stupid anyway so it doesn’t matter.

Not exactly sure why having an option to add bokeh to some object (non human) would make this stupid?
It’s creativity and allows me to play with photography little bit more than simple and boring point and shoot option.

Question is if it is worth $250 more then?

In all seriousness, portrait mode in the iPhone XR uses artificial intelligence to detect people and then blur the background. Shapes for people are foreseeable, random stuff is not. It’s pure software

Maybe your iPhone is the 8 plus. Portrait has true hardware magic going on and all those effects.

There is more than in your eyes stupid art.

The product photography needs bokeh, also wildlife or sometimes in architecture.
Its less about being artsy and more about setting focus to not getting distracted by stuff in the background.

It only works if you hold your mouth slightly agape with a surprised, slightly sexual look on your face.

if you really wanna play with your photography you can download photoshop and add the bokeh affect yourself to any picture you want. and if you actually crop out the subject in the photo properly then you will do a better job than any phone camera.

That bokeh though

so what are the chances that future upgrades to iOS will make the XR to be capable to add bokeh to non human objects? I am considering getting XS just for that reason, but would prefer stay with XR price, if there is a chance this feature will be available at some point.

I'd say zero. Maybe in iPhone XRS

I can take a photo in portrait mode of my watch, for example, and apply the bokeh effects lately. It's not just people. The object you are photographing, though, has to be a certain distance away.

On iPhone xr?
You must be the only person who already got it lol
