Moving the installation files from the original media to another drive for the purpose of installing it on a the system that's permitted under the EULA to run it? Nope, I don't believe it falls under the category of piracy at all.

I was told owning a copy of Tiger on DVD did not entitle me to media shift:

"A DVD license is not transferable to a CD version of the operating system."

"As specified within the EULA, the license is not transferable and is bound to the media type upon which it came with."

No issue with me. Just wanted to alert you to the potential copyright violation you would be engaging in by media shifting your copy of Tiger.

I had a look at those threads and can see you've discussed it fairly extensively already. Thanks for bringing this issue to light.

I'd be very surprised if any issues were to come of it though. We used to media shift installation files to USB drives on an almost daily basis in the workshop because we had to install the operating system on machines with faulty optical drives somehow. We even went as far as having a means of installing OS X Snow Leopard via Ethernet. I'm even sure that the setup was explained to Apple at one point as a means of streamlining service and repairs, yet the legality of it never came into question.

Breaking the EULA? Perhaps. Is it necessary to be that stringent about a relatively minor detail? I don't think so. I think it's simply a fact of life that sometimes a hurdle (like a hardware malfunction or limitation) will be placed between the software that we purchase and the machine that we own, and sometimes creative measures are necessary. Especially in a forum like this that deals with older machines and software where issues are more likely to be encountered.
I'm of the opinion media shifting does not constitute copyright infringement therefore you and I are on the same page. However I thought I would raise it to the OPs attention given the differences of opinion.

Dude, if that thing is an A1001, I'd buy it from you. That was my first mac,but mine is long gone now. sigh, if only...

Just get a firewire external drive, it won't matter if it is sata or pata. Booting from USB on PPC seems like a waste of time to me.

I have an 80 gig PATA I can part with if you need it for the TiBook, loaded with Leopard.

JFI, I just threw out the paperwork for the two bottles of aftermarket "TiPaint" I'd purchased for my collection of Ti's back in the day.

You got the best machine of the lot, though my bottom line 400mhz Tibook screamed along for ten years.

Your machine has two internal fans instead of one, and had 64mb vram. Nice machine.

I do appreciate the offer but I am in Canada and the fact that your name probably means you're in the US it could get a bit costly. It's sitting in the closet right now until I find another solution.

Just got a traded hdd and connector and powered it on. The drive has a fresh install of leopard on it. At first it boots and the screen had a grey ghosting effect until it turned black. Not I tried with my new Cinema Display and it turns from white to blue to off. The sounds of a leopard install run. Is the gpu finished?

Well the saga continues, turns out where the screen clips into the motherboard had broken off somewhat. I jury rigged something under the bottom panel and it works. Problem being I can't weld and I doubt I can keep this up without having a problem with how hot it'll get.
