Was anyone else relieved when they saw the Series 7 revealed yesterday? I wasn't expecting it at all given how confident the leakers were, so for me it was such a good surprise. I think the actual S7 looks great - that screen! - and looks way more comfortable than the leaked version would have been. When you look at the leaked renders as well, the screen doesn't look anywhere near as nice.

As I said on another thread as well - I'm not buying this "they changed at the last minute". It sounds like the leakers/rumour sites trying to save face. The large, subtle wrap around display (and watch faces designed to match) clearly wasn't just cooked up at the last second. Apple have done plenty of segments like that in their digital events where they don't spend a lot of time on something, "fall" release matches reports of production issues, and "noone was wearing one" also says nothing.

TL : DR I'm happy!

Although I like the flat design aesthetically, real world use case would be poor, digging in to your wrist at the bottom and more susceptible to dents and scrapes on top. The curved design is perfect for where you are wearing the device.

That's exactly how I was thinking about it as well - didn't look like it would be comfortable to wear.

Between this “leak” failure and the iPhone satellite one, I wonder who and how many Apple employees lost their jobs this week. These non-leaks sure look like the kind of fake rumors that Apple puts out to catch the leakers.

I was also relieved to see curves. I like the aesthetic and also like the way shirt sleeves glide over curves. I once had a watch with straight edges and it was amazing how much that created issues with clothing.

I suspect there is a very interesting behind the scenes story here, bu there are multiple possibilities as to what that story is.

Only thing that makes me wonder if this watch was a contingency plan is there should be zero production delays on a watch that is largely unchanged, so I do wonder if the square frame production issue rumors were true, which the fact that they have zero date for the Series 7 says they have nothing made yet, so something last minute happened.

Exactly. And the watch would be a scratch and ding magnet if it was squared off. Watches are meant to be round.

More likely that any delay is due to COVID-19 and the parts shortage.

I wonder if the leakers missed it by a year or 2. These might be new future features.

I completely agree with both your statements: that the "last minute change" rumor is bunk and that the curved design is far better than the rumored flat design.

I think too many people on Macrumors get attached to the idea of drastic redesigns and let that take priority over good design.

I’ll admit, I was hopeful for the redesign rumors just for the sake of a redesign/something different and to be consistent with the design language Apple is heading in (well, I really hope we don’t see squared of AirPods lol).

However, you are absolutely right. Rounded off edges makes much more sense on a watch and less prone to getting caught on long sleeves

The renders did remind me of my first ever smart watch from 2012. This beaut Sony put on the shelves for us to enjoy…

I was concerned about all the above reasons with a sharp edged watch. So much so, that I almost had decided not to order the new watch, even though I've upgraded every year. This is so much better and actually much nicer looking.

Now if they'd just release the 7. I'm excited about the fast charging among other things. Already ordered 2 charging cords. Yes, there probably will be one in the box, but I charge the watch in 2 different places. I also keep one in my suitcase, along with other cables, so I'm not hunting them up at the last minute.

I was definitely relieved to see the new S7 design. The leaked design was atrocious and an offense to good product design and was sure that I won't buy one anymore. But the new design is a subtle evolution with more rounded corners and bigger screen. I like it and may upgrade from my S5 later when they'll appear on the used market.

I use my Apple Watch for working out and I was worried about doing push ups and other exercises where your wrist goes back. A rounded design spreads the pressure better.

I’m glad there is no blocky design and I hope it never happens.

I'm pleased there are no square edges. I decided months ago to upgrade from my S2 to S7 and was worried it was going be square - so I'm relieved!

But the announcement of a "fall" launch must have been painful. I suspect that it's sooner rather than later, as they're going to be losing a whole load of sales on the S6 in the meantime. Quite unusual to announce an upgrade without a date.

I really hope it's soon...

Me too! Soooo didn’t want boxy watch too. Doesn’t look as comfortable, but also I’m one of those people who like the rounded more than boxy. So I was like ‘whoa wait those are rounded! Woohoo!’

The watch already catches plenty on the crown, I wouldn't want more surfaces for that to be a problem.

I'd love for the Watch to get thinner (once it can do "all day" battery life that means if I forget my charger one time I'm not hosed the next day) but I think it works well as-is, and it's far more of its identity in a way than the iPhone.

Me too, no way would I have bought the square design If anything it might make me upgrade from 5 to 7 (have cellular and dont use it so trade for 7 GPS version) to ensure I get the latest tech before it goes square...
