Great pics!! The SS link fits you well.

Just curious what size watch did your wife try on?

I LOOOOVE the look of the SS.

I fell in love with the link bracelet today. I was completely convinced that I was going to want the milanese loop, but after wearing the Link I was reminded of the watches I use to wear. Just angry now that the link band won't get here till MAY

Here's some pictures from the try on event. My hand is the hairy hand, the non-hairy hand is my wife.

My original pick was to go with the Apple Watch Sport in the Space Gray 38mm edition but changed my mind within the last few days because my brother was going to get the Space Gray configuration. I didn't want to have the exact same watch so opted to go with the SS with classic buckle. I preordered last night and tried it on this morning at the local Apple Store. Watch is so nice! I don't regret going with the SS version one bit. Here's a photo from earlier today.

Thanks, it was all kind of done randomly. I started trying them on and my wife started snapping pictures. Figured we'd make a thing out of it.

As for the sizes I was looking at 42mm, and she was looking at 38mm.

Completely agree. The reviews had me thinking of getting in cheaper with V1 by settling on the Sport, but then I figured worst case – even if I buy V2 in a year and recoup none of the extra $200 I spent for SS, that comes out to only 55¢ a day for something I'll be wearing all day, every day.

Pretty sure I can swing that, so I went with the one I liked the best ;-)

Good point - just felt if I'm gonna spend $425 might as well just pony up more coin for that sapphire watch face. SS grew on me as time went on. Was dead set on SG aluminum, but glad I ordered the SS.

Exactly..... cheap gen one, expensive gen 2. I however didn't really dig the shininess of the metal on the SS. A satin SS would be better IMHO.

I had this logic too, but really don't think you can say $399 plus state tax is cheap. But if your not feeling the shiny SS, thats a different story.

I for one look forward to future designs as we all know Apple loves having the slimmest devices out. Good thing, because this watch needs a bezel and body diet bad. :D

What size is this?

Never cared for the look of the aluminum models in photos, but was surprised the Sport model looked better in person than online. That said, didn't for one moment hesitate to get the stainless steel with sapphire; it looks so good in person. I don't care if the Gen 2 model includes time travel - I still wouldn't regret spending the extra $200.

Stainless steel is the watch case material of choice, for a good list of reasons.

I'm pretty sure that the anodising on the Watch Sport will scratch easily, and shiny scratches on matte/satin aluminium are unsightly (unlike pits and scuffs on stainless steel, which bring about an heirloom look). The space grey Watch Sport will look even worse once scratched.

If you find the stainless steel too heavy, I have a feeling that Apple will eventually introduce a titanium case...

Yeah that's a good point. The space grey sport looks nice but when scratch gate kicks in, it could look a bit of a mess

I was dead set on getting the Stainless Steel version from the start although I did give the aluminium one some consideration. Yesterday I got a chance to try them all on. The silver coloured aluminium does look on the cheap side. The space grey aluminium looks quite nice but due to it's lightness and anodised look doesn't seem as solid as the stainless steel. I prefer the weight and shiny look of the stainless steel which I had already preordered and I know 100% i made the right choice. Also despite having fairly small wrists at 165mm I'm still glad I chose the 42mm model as it looks just fine on my wrist especially after wearing the original Pebble for so long.

After seeing the silver aluminum with the white band I'm wishing I went with SS, but I keep reminding myself this is a 1st gen. $100 difference and I would have done it but $200 more was a bit much for me.

Ordered the SG sport 42 but kind of regretting that a little, the SS looks much nicer IMO. That said, i think it would be a touch too heavy for exercise. I have a regular Armani watch which weighs the same as the SS and i have to take it off when i exercise, the weight is annoying. So for me its a tough call. The sport will definitely be better as an all rounder and it saved me £180, but i have a feeling every time i get dressed up to go out i will be wishing i had the SS. Maybe once i've seen how much use I get from it i will invest in both :)

After the reviews i changed my mind and said its a first gen and would stick with the SG Sport. Up until the night before i preorder I couldn't make up my mind which one to go with.

Pre ordered both SS and SG sport with sport bands and then checked both of them out at the Apple store. SS for me won hands down and the Sport just seemed like a toy in comparison.

As others have said its gonna be on your wrist every day and having first experience from wearing a Pebble Steel for 12 months and I can tell you its very hard to go back to non smart watch.

The £180 price bump for me is well worth it. Cancelled the pre order for the SG sport

Couple things that I think are definitely worth noting...

1. I expect the bands to be like the original 30-Pin dock port on the iPod. The band slit is constrained by the size of the band itself, and realistically probably won't change for a few years.

2. Apple Watch is probably likely to have an Apple TV style release cycle for the next few years. The Apple Watch runs in many cases as a secondary remote display from your iPhone. The Watch is in a constant "race to sleep" mode, and realistically I expect that native apps will be stricter on resources then the iPhone was once it got native apps. 1st gen worries are minimal for me.

At the very best I think it's safe to say that the Apple Watch will get the normal Apple iPhone X to Apple XS cycle, and I don't see batteries coming far enough along to make that really much better this time next year.

I'd recommend finding what makes you the happiest that you can afford. If Gen 2 is that much of a revelation that you want it, I'd imagine that the resale rate will be high enough to make going to Gen 2 to be easy. When you consider that I expect the bands to work for at the very least the next revision, possibly 2 or 3 I think it's easier to swallow.

I'm not really worried about the bands. I foresee the Apple Watch having a release/upgrade cycle similar to the iPhone/iPad (It's to big of a product to be treated like the Apple TV), and with the iPad 2/iPhone 3G Apple corrected a lot of issues with Gen 2. I expect them to take a lot of the feedback they receive and try to correct it in Apple Watch 2. Then, after that, I foresee an X then XS release cycle.

I just tried on SS today and I'm in love with the Milanese band and the leather loop. Liked the look of link bracelet but Milanese just felt right. I'm ordering SS with sport band on 4/24 and then buying leather loop separately

To each their own. I think the Stainless steel looks great, but so does the aluminum sport. I have a very nice stainless steel watch already to wear at formal events with coworkers or other special events. Other than that, I have ordered a black sport band and a blue leather loop for my aluminum sport. I believe it will still look great to wear at the office as well as just socially.

No need to out either down. There are pluses and minuses to both versions. Maybe next year I'll spring for the stainless steel but I'm quite pleased with the aluminum sport for now.

Battery technology has been slow to change, but chip technology has advanced. By next year, Apple should be able to use Samsung's 14nm or TSMC's 16nm process for making chips, vs. the 28nm or 22nm process they are likely using now. That should help in 2 ways: 1) the chip itself will use less power, and 2) the chip will be smaller, allowing Apple to put a slightly larger battery inside.

I ordered both. Will decide. The SS is nicer, though also a lot more expansive . The black sports is nice in my opinion. The aluminium sports , looks cheap

For me the Apple watch will be use as a fitness watch first (thus the purchase of the Aluminum Sports watch)... and then a dev platform for some apps. This is replacing my Fitbit, but I can see how the SS is more fashionable. I guess it''s about your usage and priorities ... they all have the same guts but the SS is a more fashion / real world looks as the Sports is more fitness looking. I maybe get a non-sports band depending on what i think after a week but no decision yet.

Give the inevitable improvement when V2 comes allong, I'm opting for a minimal investment now.
