i think they'll move the wi-fi/bt antenna to the inside, wrapping the gsm/3g antenna around the entire phone. This way it'll have
a. overall better reception
b. no detuning of the antenna anymore
c. no ugly seams

question is where to find the space for the wifi/bt antenna?
my bet is either a slightly smaller battery or they are able to downsize the flash memory with the ongoing upgrade cycles taken into account. If they are able to downsize the memory sooner due to a smaller proces node we might even see such a redesign sooner than iphone 5.

what i'm pretty much sure about is there will be no coating. The whole essence of this design was to have the antenna exposed and functioning as the frame. over Jobs' and Ive's dead bodies i can assure you.

moving the seam from the lower left to the bottom might also be possible but highly unlikely as it will still cause problems when you touch it there (mainly when reading / watching videos on the net)

apple doesnt do compromise solutions that's why i'm pretty sure it will be a solution like i suggested. win-win.

I'm holding out for a redesign so it cant come soon enough for me (but preferably not some coating / relocation)

Apple will probably bring the chrome bezel back to prevent the glass to protrude from shattering.

I wouldn't be shocked if Apple went back to the older, curvier design. Just thinner than the first three gens. You can only do so much with a touchscreen design before it starts looking the same with your older products or a competitor's. A slab of the same old thing.

No way they would bring back chrome/ugly curved back. They stepped up and changed what a touch screen phone looks like for the better IMHO. I could see the antenna being a solid bar like another suggested, but why change the sexiest phone design? Works great, looks great, no change needed.

They will put the antenna back inside and put a 4 inch screen on the next iPhone with the same resolution as the current iPhone.

You heard it here first. Mark my words.

This, but with a 4 inch screen.

I think the basic design of the phone will stay the same, just have the antenna engineered differently.

I think there will be some slight changes to make sure the antenna isn't an issue.

I doubt we will see a LTE version out next year. Mainly because there is no place in the US with a single functioning LTE tower, and I doubt it will be deployed by AT&T or Verizon nationwide that fast. Instead, we will likely see a capacity boost to 64GB, perhaps a hard glass coating to help ward off scratches, a slightly faster CPU (I'm guessing 1200 MHz except underclocked to 8000-1000), and maybe better encryption of data so the enterprise people who demand data be encrypted are happy.

The evolutionary iPhone will be next year. The revolutionary one will likely be in 2012 or 2013 after LTE is widely deployed.

iPhone 4 has the best wireless performance we've ever tested.

So, to answer the question in short: no.
