So i cancelled my data plan for my iphone 3g

but what i wanna know is do i still get wifi ??

i tried to use safari but it says that i cant use the internet or i dont have a data plan

wtf is this i know the ipod touch has wifi but whats goin on here ??

basically my iphone is worthless cuz nothing works

no itunes
no app store
no gps
 
unless your within range of a wireless router of course your wifi won't work, but if i understand correctly you cancelled the data plan and thought you could still get internet access while driving? :confused:

I suppose you should have first gained an understanding of what exactly wifi is before cancelling your data plan.

Its not the same as a cellular network. Its much shorter range, typically households and business setup them up, either for private or public use. While there are many hotspots (wifi availability), its by no mean widespread

I think AT&T pressed the "Make It Rain" button on yo A**!! You best be turning that data back on! :) Best luck in getting that functionality back!

Yes you can still use the internet thru WIFI for free without AT&T's data as long as you're connected to a wireless router.
Its not worthless, itunes will work, the appstore will work as long as you're connected on wifi.
Also GPS still works without data but the googlemaps app wont load if you dont have internet connection. If you have a GPS app that stores the maps on the iphone like Navigon or Tomtom for example you can still use GPS navigation without a prob.

This thread cracked me up! I can't believe people think that WiFi is everywhere just for you to grab for free. Our AEBS is password protected and so are all my neighbors. Even the library a block away blocks all iPhone traffic except Safari use. I thought one day I would park on the street and try and download a song using the libraries WiFi and I couldn't do it.

I hope the OP now realizes that the iPod Touch works the same way. You can't get WiFi everywhere.

He didn't, I don't know why the other people react that way, it could be that he's in range of his own network but it doesn't work for some reason.
The message the OP wrote is not exactly an example of clarity though...
 
Data plan with Rogers

I am with Rogers in Canada and I also cancel my data plan because in my area ( Charlevoix) internet access was so slow that it was useless. So I save 30$/month for a service that was worthless anyway. Now I depend on wifi availibility for internet connection. It,s too bad, I may get it back some day when 3g (or better) network will be available around here :mad:

Soooo you cancelled your data plan and then complain saying that your phone is worthless because nothing works? Did you also buy a 50" HD tv and opt out of getting HD cable and wonder why the picture is crap? Buy a BMW and not put gas in it and wonder why it won't go anywhere?

I never said he was retarded. I just find it really hard to comprehend that someone that owns an iPhone and has enough internet sense to find their way to an online forum doesn't know what WiFi is.

The point I was making was that you can't buy the best thing out there and then try to cut costs by taking away some necessary features from it then complain that it doesn't work how it's supposed to.
