My mom picked me up a black 32gb Verizon iPhone 5 last night as a gift. I have yet to open it. Part of me wants to, the other part says to take it back and nix the account. I am an android user and have service through at&t all though it is kind of spotty at work wwhereas Verizon kind of spotty at the house.

So, I guess, do I open it or just return it. I suspect I will get slapped fees either way so.

With Verizon, you have 14 days to return. Dealing with you mom, well that's your problem. :p

Since you don't know what to do with it, throw it in the garbage.

Return it. The iPhone 5s is coming out soon, best to stick with what you have right now and wait it out. Why do you want an outdated phone in less than 9 months?

I agree with this, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4 that will probably come out around the same time if your an android user.

I really need to stop playing musical phones :D

I hope returning it will not cause Verizon to black list us, or her.

Meh.

Perhaps I should try for a mini. But I did not use the last ipad either, a first Gen. I have never used an iPhone before either so.

I do have a 15" mbp however which wreaks havoc on the Android use.

I suspect the device may go back and have the vzw account closed.

Wow, generous mum! Would she not be angry that you returned a gift? If not then I'd say return it and put the money to something you need, or wait until a phone that really tickles your fancy comes out :)

Returning gifts from your mother is bad form. IMHO. Suck it up and use the godawful, outdated iPhone 5.

Donate it to a women's resource center. (They're located in the white pages.)
Many battered women could use and iPhone as the 911 still works even without paid service.

Not everyone demands the absolute latest and greatest. Its outdated because apple wants you to think its outdated.

Return it. If you don't need a new phone right now, there will be plenty of great options coming out this year.

The 5S will be a meaningless update. Wait for the 6 next fall.

Agreed. The 5 is already fast, I really hope they do something better than a faster CPU and 13mp camera... There is much more that is needed to be done on the software front.

well if youre an android user, return it?

you could always keep the money and maybe get an iphone 6 (or 5S or whatever) if you change your mind.

I do admit I am still a bit curious about an iPhone. Yeah, many people suggested waiting for the 5s, but knowing how things go, by the time the 5s comes out and one actually gets one, the 6 will be on board. Okay, perhaps a little exaggerated. Android is a bit like this too. A great phone comes out, then a month or so later, another comes out from different handset manufacturer that changes things up.

Same with an iPad mini, it is still hard as hell to just walk into best buy and buy one as they only get like a few at a time and they are snatched up as soon as the come in.

Wait for the 5s, I am sure it will be a minimal upgrade, perhaps NFC (though from Apples stand point, NFC is not main stream yet) so that may even be a feature on the 6.

Sorry, just kind of rambling right now.

Perhaps I should pick one up from AT&T sans contract and check it out, upgrade a line at full price.
