People who enjoy phones without regret depends on circumstance and timing. I was quite happy with my HtC thunderbolt because it kept up with newer phones and was built like a tank.

Might as well wait to see what the S4 is like and what it will offer.

The 5 is still a great phone. It's a gift, so just be grateful and enjoy. :) If you play the waiting game, you'll just keep waiting for the next "best phone" around the corner.

My mom picked me up a black 32gb Verizon iPhone 5 last night as a gift. I have yet to open it. Part of me wants to, the other part says to take it back and nix the account. I am an android user and have service through at&t all though it is kind of spotty at work wwhereas Verizon kind of spotty at the house.

So, I guess, do I open it or just return it. I suspect I will get slapped fees either way so.

I have an iphone and even I can't recommend you keep it. Mine was scratched out of box (again), but I decided to keep it since I knew every black phone I opened would be scratched anyway.

I tried "showing off" my new iphone to a friend. She immediately pulled out her new samsung galaxy note 2 with an incredibly bright, gorgeous 5.5" screen. Yeah, guess who won that battle.

Return it. The iPhone 5s is coming out soon, best to stick with what you have right now and wait it out. Why do you want an outdated phone in less than 9 months?

Since when did a phone become outdated when a new version comes out? My friends 4S can run the exact same apps and do everything my 5 can do. How is that considered outdated?

Processor, the screen, the camera all becomes better as time goes on.

So I got one

Yes but that doesn't mean last years version is outdated. It is just as useful. I just don't know why people have become brainwashed thinking that because their device is no longer the newest it is no longer useful. It's worse with android users, I know a few people who update their phones every 3-6 months with android.

Next iPhone will be out in 6 months, why wait that long. If you constantly wait for the newest version to be released you will never have anything

One of the main reasons the device was returned was because she opened up another line on verizon, when, in most cases AT&T works for the most part. One reason it was gotten was because I was complaining I was having issues at work, but then again, everyone else pretty much was as well with their devices. Sure, when I tried verizon out for myself (I got ahold of a note 2 from them) the service was only slightly better, meaning a slightly more stable 3g connection. Not worth the 130$ extra a month for a new line from a new carrier just for work.

So the iPhone she got me was a slight misunderstanding.

I guess I will just deal with the quirky connection at work. At least my note II from AT&T has a massive battery :)

I am still thinking about carrying two lines while at work, however, for when storm season kicks up. Perhaps I can hide the device in my coat and place my coat in a good area and hope my smart watch will alert me when I walk by it.

But yes, I am still curious about the device. The option to jailbreak is there (provided I get one with a hackable firmware), so I may not want to wait too long.

I'd definitely say to try one out. I mean you do have 14 days to try it pretty much risk-free. The sooner, the better, though, as the jailbreak is said to patched in the next update.

I, just like you, am going to be trying out Android again after about 2 years with an iPhone (had an OG Droid, a Droid X, and a Thunderbolt, which was borderline unusable considering how god awful the battery life was... 3 hours of standby with an hour and a half of screen on time is absolutely horrendous). I plan on buying the rumored X-Phone that is to be released at Google I/O in May by the now Google-owned Motorola. If it lives up to the hype/expectations that I have for it ($299-$399 off-contract price, stock Android, slim with a big battery, 4.7"-5" display, 2GB RAM and a good processor, LTE) I'll definitely be picking it up, and since most of the rumors are lining up with those details, it's looking even more likely to be my next phone. If it can at least achieve that price point with most of those specs, it'll be awesome.

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand, but how could you ever like the Thunderbolt? I hated mine to death. I barely managed 3 hours of standby with 1.5 hours of screen-on time. That thing needed to be charged at least 3-4 times a day. It would lag, things would force close... it was just a horrible, horrible mess.
