I think she meant she would expect more (better) performance from the product, not more wear and tear

Normal wear and tear varies from individual to individual
You might work construction and carry it to a job site every day out in the weather
If so, that might be normal for you

Others might only carry it to class and use it in a library or dorm room
In that case, you probably didn't get your money's worth

Sorry no. I consider that excessive wear and as MacDawg said, either it is just from exceptionally heavy use or you just didn't get your money's worth.

Well it might be faux-leather. That's typical in apple accessories these days.
