well.... it's a long story but i kinda dropped my video camera....and it bounced down a flight of stairs....yeah..... ANYway I need a new one, and the sooner the better because I'm working on a music video for a band and we want to finish shooting before the end of Jan.

    any suggestions?

EDIT: forgot details, I'd need a nice one, but not too pricey, preferably something with a 16:9 ratio screen and 16:9 recording capability and mac compatible =p

When asking a question such as this one, it would help greatly if you listed some details. Things like HD or SD, budget, etc. Help us help you.

yeah sorry about them.... either hd or sd is fine, as for budget probably around 600-800 at max. and something that's been known to work with Final cut pro well. and something semi portable, it doesn't have to be able to be carried wherever i go but something that isn't a b**** to carry when i do bring it.

i was looking at this one:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8208771&type=product&id=1165610938182

but any recommendations would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend any consumer camcorder that records to hard drive, memory chip or DVD IF you plan to edit afterward. The formats these cameras record in are highly compressed and will most likely require converting prior to editing. Instead, look for a tape based camera; either DV or HDV.

Check out the Canon HV20. I'm looking at getting one and have read very much about them. It seems like a great camcorder. camcorderinfo.com did a review with the HV20, a Sony, JVC Everio, and a Panasonic, all high def, and the Canon was the winner. All reviews have said it was good. And, while attending a Final Cut workshop at an Apple store, they used a HV20 to transfer video. I think the price is around $680 at B&H Photo.

I also see that there is now an HV30. Haven't seen this before. I'm gonna read up on it as well. Good luck!

I would also highly recommend the Canon HV20. Its an amazing camera, and prices have come down on it recently. Also, there is an entire community dedicated to this thing at: http://www.hv20.com/. Be sure to check it out.
