I have a device that comes with a mini-cd installation disc. I kinda tried putting it in but was reluctant to try to hard for fear it may get stuck in there. I take it iMacs can not play mini-CD's? I never even considered it before. A design flaw?

That is correct. NEVER put a mini-CD (or otherwise odd-shaped disk) in a Mac slot-loading disk drive.

You may be able to download the device software from the company's website.

Correct, no mini-discs in iMacs, or any other slot loading mac for that matter.

Do not put mini-CD's into slot loading drives. Bad things will happen.

    I agree!

They were cute way-back-when during the last years of the floppy and the coming of flash memory, but that 300MB disk became obsolete when flash got to 512MB and when they started packing mini-discs in boxes of Frosted Flakes with kid cartoons on them.

    Apple has a design flaw!

The Nintendo Wii accepts mini CDs without any problems.

Apple don't design the slot loading drives, they simply buy off-the-shelf laptop slot loaders from whoever is selling them cheapest at the time

The iMac runs OS X, iTunes, Final Cut Express and the Wii does not. So there must be a design flaw with the Wii :)

I remember when they first came out in spindles at Staples, I was so excited. I bought a spindle of a hundred. I think I used... 1?

They're now official dust collectors. :(

Apple actually filed a patent for a mini-disc adapter for slot-loading drives in 2006, prior to the realization that mini-discs were about as useful as an inflatable boat anchor.

I bought a few because they were great for clients that only had less than 300MB of photos taken for a job. And I used a few for digital business cards, but after I realized the DBC where EXPENSIVE! And the high cost and low availability of mini CDs were a hassle, I gave the few I had left to my college newspaper.

They still have them in the storage closet.

It was about as useful as a stylus for the iPhone even. The mini CDs were okay for a little while, then they just faded away

Yeah, unfortunately with the new iMacs being slot load, you can't insert a mini-CD in there. God knows what would happen to it!

When I had my tray loading eMac, it was perfect, but not with a slot load.
