My iphone 3gs backlight was acting up, so i took it to the apple store to get it looked at. well my appt was for 4:00 i got there at 4:30 (i had to drive 2hrs to get there) and they had canceled my appt,( if your 7 mins late they cancel it). so i had to wait 45 mins until someone could get to me. any way, he looked at my phone and said he was going to the back and re-seat some cables and try and get it working, well he came back and said he tried a few diff screens and it wouldnt work, so he was going to give me a replacement. and I am one of the people who accidentally upgraded to 3.1.3, but the phone they gave me has 3.1.2 :). so i was soooo happy. just thought i share that, they dont update the phones immediately.

    Nice, you got lucky there.

After you Jailbreak your iphone 3GS can you restart it without asking you to plug into itunes?
You know a tethered or untethered jailbreak.

    It's likely a remanufactured 3GS

If the 2nd digit of the serial # is a letter instead of a number, it's remanufactured.

Doesn't matter at all, just trying to explain why you got 3.1.2 firmware and the old bootrom

I lucked out as well yesterday. Had a tethered jailbreak and got a 3.1.2 replacement which is untethered. I'm sure its a remanufactured one as the lifetime hours was 23 days. but who cares. It works perfect.

Check 2nd digit of serial # to tell.

And I still disagree with you.

And just because a poster puts that in another post, it is certified true ?????

So far, all the remanufactured 3GS phones have had a letter instead of a number as the 2nd digit of the SN

As evidenced by this thread and lots of others here. Perhaps that will change in the future.
