Do you choose to be annoyed else turn that notification off?
It is, indeed, an annoying notification. I thought it was triggered by not moving (enough) for a short period of time.
IOW, the AW can detect movement and suggest to start a workout and vice versa detect a stand-still and suggest to end the workout.
Not sure if I'm right here ??

Yes, there's a start workout reminder and an end workout reminder. Both can be turned off in watch settings if you find them annoying.

Yup, quite possible to close the exercise ring without running a workout, glad to see you got to experience it for yourself.

Be interesting to see how many exercise minutes you get while strolling taking photos. Do let us know how that goes. :)
Will do :) :apple:.

So I just went out to return something to a shop (store.)

I heard quite a few “queries” as to whether I was working out or not.

I ignored them all (approximately 5) then almost as I reached back to my starting point, I heard the exercise ring closed notification.

I was marching, but I think even if one was strolling, and stopping to take photographs, it would still register.

Thanks for everyone’s input (and I’m sweating, by the way!)
Would be interesting to see how your heart rate logged during that march.
Also did the time (actual) match up with the time logged (exercise minutes).

I got a few of these afterwards.

I’d say the tracking was pretty accurate.

Thing is you have to move your wrist for it to count towards your workout or steps. I’m at home with a newborn baby and do plenty of walking inside the house and outside. However I’m lifting the baby with one hand and supporting the baby’s head with the other hand where my AW is. None of my steps get counted and I frequently get the alert to Stand Up lol.

I think it measures arm movements, and heart rate, when deciding if it’s working out or not.

Can’t you do baby curls, to get your rings closed? :)

My experience with exercise experience hasn't been great. You get credit when your heart rate goes above a set amount determined by watch. My preferred exercise is running and as a result my heart rate is normally pretty low so to get above the watch threshold, I gotta WORK for it.

Walking almost never counts my full exercise minutes no matter how fast I walk. Strolling never counts exercise minutes for me. I find the best option is to use 'other' at least once a day to close that ring and then hammer out the rest later.

I used to go for walks when I first got my Apple Watch, and it tracked them perfectly.

Have to tried the old skool cure of switching off then on?

I have had every Apple Watch from the beginning. Indoor walk almost never counts the exercise minutes and the outdoor walk is inconsistent. They ALL do this for me.

My wife would kill me if I tried baby curls 😂 plus the little booger is getting heavy. My workout consists of running after a 3 y/o toddler and baby walking. Not a proper workout, but it sure raises the heart rate!

It was my birthday yesterday, and me & my mum went to Bluewater to do some shopping (UK shopping mall.)

We did a fair bit of walking, not marching, but I still closed my rings.

Guess retail therapy is good for you after all, eh?
