If the lens cover is no longer sapphire crystal lens cover like in the 5G, so then what does it use instead? Anyone know? Does this mean that with normal use it will get scratches on the lens (cover)?

My 5G is what, like 2-3 years old? And although it has tiny scratches on the display, there are non on the lens.

The only thing that's really keeping me from upgrading is the lens cover... Which is why I ask. Do all other current Apple devices like the iPad still use sapphire crystal? Is it only the iPod Touch 6G which got left out?

How do you know it's not sapphire?

I don't know if it is Sapphire or not but about ipod touch being left out.

Cheapest Ipad is around 299 usd with 16gb and cheapest iPhone is around 550 usd.
It seems appropriate to me if Ipod touch don't got sapphire cover lens. It is much cheaper but since the touch 5 has it then maybe because touch 6 has more expensive A8 chip? not sure.

U sure it's gorilla glass? Yeah I figured it was some sort of fortified glass. Hope it's really strong though.

In the teardown, it was reported that it was not sapphire.

In my opinion, the photos look better without the sapphire lens cover (the refractive index of the sapphire glass is different from conventional optical glass).

1. Yeah (wonder how they figured it out, scratch test? Color?)
2. Are you sure it makes that much of a difference?
