And I'm sure you will use your iPhone 8 in the same ways that you do now. Will just do more and look different

Yes but looking different and especially having a smaller footprint is more than half the battle when Apple are trying to entice us to upgrade in a market offering ever diminishing performance returns. Heck, a lot of people upgrade purely to get a different colour so Apple absolutely do need to continue with their previous biannual design changes in order to address falling sales.

Well there's no question the iPhone 8 will get record sales for the new design alone. Not sure what sales was with the 7 but sounds like it still sold pretty damn well.

Currently a new 7 Plus owner here.

I have to say if I had not upgraded my 6 Plus to iOS 10 my experience was pretty similar.

I will say I am enjoying the new camera, raise to wake, and hey Siri the most.

I would say I could have probably gotten away with my 6 Plus another year if I'm being honest but I would DEFINITELY say any users of the 6s series should not feel enticed to upgrade by any means.

I've had cellphones for @ 20 years, I've had almost every iPhone since the original launch, and they just keep getting better every year.

Recently I picked up a 6S Plus with 1 yr of Applecare left for a great price, and I am really pleased with all the upgrades.

For god sake, it's a phone, and does plenty of things for me, and I'm really glad to have one.... :)

I really don't think we will see a lot of change in form factor in the near future. After all, it's a rectangle with a glass front - about as far as you can go is less bezel and thinner body.

I went from a 6+ to a 7+. Yes, the iconic design looks very similar, but the insides are dramatically upgraded. The increase in performance is quite dramatic in my opinion.

From what I see, most of the innovation in the next five years will be on the OS and interface.

Well, I upgraded to a 7 Plus from a regular 6, so I got a ton of new features.

Bigger Battery (longer lasting)
2 more GB of RAM
Faster CPU and GPU
Bigger Screen
3D Touch
Stereo Speakers
Water Resistance
Haptics
12MP Camera (able to shoot in RAW)
Live Photos
Wide Gamut 1080p Display
4K Video Recording
Solid State Home Button
2x Optical Zoom
Optical Image Stabilization
Raise to Wake
"Hey Siri" (without being plugged in)
Voicemail Transcripts
Faster WIFI and LTE Speeds

That's a hell of a jump if you ask me!

And even greater if coming from an earlier model like I did (5s to the standard 7) so all of those features apply to me and then some! You forget to mention the hybrid processor which is a pretty major CPU change.

It must suck for the OP to need so much change every year to be happy. What happened to "if it ain't broke"? About the worst thing they could do is make poor changes just to placate the fickle.
