I think Face-ID works great now - much better than first year of Touch-ID. If it didn't "improve" it would be fine. An Apple executive (can't think of whom at the moment) said they never envisioned touch-id for use by multiple people and don't envision for Face-ID so I'm not sure I'd expect that capability soon.

That's pure BS by that Apple executive.
Since many people tend to use a device not just 1 person. Why not make it easier on the end user instead of having to type passcode pins?
Same thing with ipads, the whole family uses it at home. Only 1 person could unlock it with face ID?
Doesn't make much sense and it shouldn't be that hard to implement more than 1 face ID setting.
They always tend to make excuses for their shortcomings and then they finally fix or update it and gloat and act like its the greatest improvement ever 😀

I don't know anyone who is comfortable handing their personal phone to anyone else, unsupervised, and for any length of time. You must be unique.
I just think of Face ID so secure Apple has to be the first to remove passwords all together I just hate I have to put passwords when I have Face ID

If I had children, I would like to have the opportunity get into their phone for supervision. Or perhaps you and your spouse would like to share the phone.
Number 2 is vital. It’s annoying holding the phone “too” close and it doesn’t unlock. That’s my biggest issue with Face ID. Especially when my glasses aren’t on, I have no choice.

Being upset over far better hardware is being selfish and makes the industry stagnant.
With the way Apple moves anyway, I only see improvements by 2019 which is same as Touch ID by 2015 after two years.

The difference between the 5S/6 and the 6S and later is HUGE, in my opinion. I find the X often lagging on FaceID operations. Having owned all of the TouchID phones, if the difference between the X and the XI is as big as the difference between the first and second gen TouchID phones, I'd practically give away an X to get an XI. How I used my phone and how I felt about using it changed radically with the 6S.

4) Speed. If you swipe as soon as the screen goes on, there is a slight delay for Face ID to work. Not really an issue, but I’m guessing they will improve this, if possible, since they improved the speed of an already fast Touch ID.
Of course, perhaps this is impossible for some reason.
Also, not sure we’ll get Face ID improvements in 2018.
50 bucks a month for the top end flagship device with AppleCare+ and an instant tradeup on launch day to the next device with no hassle is not in any way a bad call. Sure beats dealing with any carrier, caring about every scratch or bump for the next owner, dealing with eBay or craigslist, paying in full for the device and hoping your other one sells, and all the other garbage that comes with owning one of these outright.

I think we definitely will get the improvements within a couple cycles - the delay is due to current computational power, the state of the neural network and the current possible quality/resolution of the face mapping tech. I'm sure there's power considerations as well as non-instant bootup times for sleeping FaceID components that will go away when power consumption is improved. No doubt the auth will happen faster, eliminating the delay, as soon as Apple can pull it off. It did take a few generations of TouchID before we ended up with the faster version, so it could be anywhere from next cycle to three from now.
Nonetheless I think the current speed is very quick and I don't think I've ever been remotely impatient. Feels like you're powering through it when you notice it, feels like you don't have any authentication at all when you don't.

#1. No Absurd Notch so instead of a Home Button Chin we will have a FaceID Forehead. The Notch Instrudes in Landscape Mode forcing too much of a shrunken screen and awkward Safari use and Video watching.
#2. Much improved power management these Camera always have to be on Scanning all the time wasting battery
#3. And haters gone hate but the 6.4” IPhone X Plus will make people very sweaty in 10 months or so.

No, $50 a month for 2 years is still $1200 no matter how you try to present it. Plus you're paying the full sales tax on the device each year you upgrade.

It's not expected for vast improvements with technology on a year-to-year basis. Technology is an evolution of maturity, not an overhauled process every 12 months. Those who have expectations of major changes every year to the smart phone industry are Inept to manufacturing processes and R&D.

I see what you mean, but not the same. macOS was built for multiple accounts, iOS was not. Sure, two or more people can add fingerprints for one account, but that’s not how Apple designed it. One person, one set of fingerprints per account - not multiple persons per one account, even on Mac.
I’m not defending this design, I’m just explaining what was Apple’s vision here: only one person with multiple fingers or one face per account. How many accounts does iOS have? One. So they designed the system with just one person in mind. They never intended for multiple persons to leave fingerprints on it and that’s what Craig meant.
So no, I didn’t laugh, I tried to look at the issue from his perspective 🙂

Where are you getting two years? iPhone Upgrade Program. No reason to ever keep the device more than launch day to launch day - one year. $600 out of pocket per device. I don't know where you're coming from here. Sales tax? Big deal. I pay sales tax on everything I buy always. Like that is going to be a deal breaker.
It's not a bad deal to me and literally millions of others. Heck, if this device was only a pocket camera I'd still do it.
