So is the world iPhone going to have the AT&T or Verizon button positioning?

Oh nevermind, I think I understand what you are asking. As far as I know, the 4S will support both CDMA and GSM network (one at a time though) on the same device, and retain the design of the VZW iPhone 4's antenna.

I saw in an article on Engadget that the 'grooves' are in the same places on this 4S as they are with the Verizon model, so I assume the buttons are also

The GSM iPhone 4 model is slightly different from the CDMA iPhone model. The mute and volume buttons are in slightly different positions, as well as the black "bars of death".
This is significant in that if you have a GSM iPhone 4 case that has precise fitting, it will not fit on the iPhone 4S.
