So it looks like the next iphone will be 4S

The second generation iPhone was allowed to have "3G" in it because of the 3G capabilities. The iPhone that followed couldn't be called "iPhone 4" because it was the 3rd iPhone, and it couldn't be called the "iPhone 3" because it would be confused with "3G". So adding the "s" to it made sense because it then allowed the numbers to match up the version of iPhone they corresponded to, and in terms of marketing consumers would eat up the "s" that referred to "speed."

The iPhone 4 made sense, it was the fourth generation iPhone. If they name the next iPhone with "4S" it won't make sense to me because the iPhone 4 is already quicker than the 3GS that already refers to speed. And then the iPhone following it would be the sixth iPhone and I don't know if they'd just skip the "iPhone 5" name and go to 6. It just doesn't make sense. Also it would be better to market it as iPhone 5 with A5 chip and iOS 5.

I'm thinking that they just ultimately have to drop the numbers soon and simply refer to it as the "New iPhone", because how ridiculous is it going to sound referring to your iPhone with such large numbers?

Next iphone will be called the iphone 5 because it is the 5th iphone. Just like the iphone 4 was the 4th. I always wonder who came up with the "s is for speed" nonsense just so future names would correspond correctly. I bet they make mucho $$

Yeah, theres a few tweaks in there in order to enable higher clock rates. However the architechture is identical.

Sorry, Jack, its the same processor. And its at end of life. You bought old tech, its reality. Deal with it.

So what if the architecture is identical? Architecture is the same on the A5 too. If the architecture wasn't identical (or at least very similar) Apple would have to rewrite the software every time. The difference is kind of like the Pentium 4 vs the Core-series processors. They both are x86 processors and can run the same software, but the latter is much faster and much more efficient due to design optimizations.
 
I much rather have a brand new, better looking and different operating system rather than a new iPhone. IOS really needs a makeover. I can't imagine Apple not releasing a new phone, but I rather have a new operating system. And I don't know about you guys, but I would probably hold off on iPhone 5 if the only thing it had was the A5 chip. Knowing Apple, that's probably not the only thing it will have though...

I bought my iPhone 4 in July of last year.

I was just pointing out your misstatements.
