That's according to Business Insider which interviewed a former Apple intern named Brad.

If that's true I'd be very curious to know how they finally settled on keeping the camera bulge instead of making the phone thicker. Did they have prototypes with a flush camera that didn't feel as good in the hand or were slightly harder to hold? Or were they dogmatic about the thickness and as much as Ive hated the bulge, that trumped everything else? One can imagine if Ive is not a fan of the camera bulge he's not a fan of the antenna lines either, so it will be interesting to see if either of those are adjusted with the phones this fall. I'm not a fan of either but I must say my 6 is the best feeling in the hand iPhone I've ever owned. I'm using one of Apple's silicon cases which has been incredibly durable and smudge proof. I couldn't be happier but I certainly won't mind seeing the bulge and antenna lines go away.
