I was super excited for keynote 6 and once i got it and got used to the changes I can't help but ask, is it actually a downgrade??

I will admit the new transitions, builds and upgraded tools (especially alpha, amirite?) are fantabulous but

I mean the timings once you export a presentation are slower and the settings are confsuing when you're trying to export to a quicktime file.

Anyone know how to fix that since that plays a big role in having my presentations timed perfeclty?

thanks, feel free to check out my presentations on keynote

its quite capable a program of presenting excellence

Yes... the new version of Keynote strove for feature parity with the iOS versions, which means that many many features were removed.

For me, the inability to control the layout of the presenter display was the deal breaker, but i ran into so many other issues before I went running back to 5.3.

Another notable "feature" is that it no longer tells you which fonts are missing when you open a presentation.. it just lets you know one is missing! Of course, this makes sense because we are not allowed to use alternate fonts in iOS...

When you install 6, the old keynote is moved to a folder, so you can still use it. But, if you reinstall your OS, it can be quite a bit of work to install iWork 09 and the upgrade it to the latest version. Apple will no longer allow you to download 5.3 from the app store.

I have heard that apple is planning on adding back the missing features over time, and until then I will stay with 5.3... but I am very concerned to have to wait a year relying on a tool that I can no longer download in an emergency.

It seems like it.
My movies won't play either.
Not sure catering keynote to the iPad is a good idea

What kind of settings do you use keynote in?

I am using it currently for academic presentations but hope to use it for business in the future

ahh man i wish i had this back when i was in academics (student, not teacher)

but ummm i keep the slide size 1280 x 720 cause it looks HOT in HD

the settings as far as animations and transitions differ of course but usually theyre spaced apart to be a good hybrid of dynamic and informative
