I have all of my Apple related stuff listed in my signature... is iPhone 4 on there? No... Why would I buy something so flawed? No need to name-call here, buddy.

What I'm getting at is, Apple has to realize that their target audience is humans. Humans are not perfect by nature, and accidents do happen. For the phone to *most likely* break upon that first accident occurring is absolutely ridiculous. It's a phone that you handle everyday, in and out of your pocket, on and off of flat surfaces, etc, something is bound to happen.

*Insert "I have never dropped my phone ever and shame on you if you have" people*

The 3GS is also made out of glass.

When I am at home, my iPhone is either on the charging dock or placed in a business card holder that I got several years ago for my first iPhone. This then keeps the phone more visible and decreases the likelihood of it getting knocked off a table or counter. I never just lay my iPhone down flat anywhere. When I am out someplace, the cased iPhone is either in my hand or in my pocket. I never set it down somewhere when away from home. Very simple, basic precautions.....

I'd much rather have a screen that shatters easily than one that scratches easily.

I used my 3G for 2 years without a case.

The back got pretty beat up. The front still looks great.

If a company's old phone had 2 kinds of surfaces it just seems like the obvious choice to only use the material that held up better over the last 2 years.

Put a case on it.

Obviously with 1.7 million sold in four effing days, whatever Apple was thinking appears to not have been a deal breaker. :D

We get it. The design doesn't suit you. Fortunately for you, the smartphone market has never had more options!

I'm not talking about the glass screen... it's the glass BACK that makes no sense!

I don't know about you, but when I accidentally drop something I don't have much control over which side it gets dropped on. If the material is good enough for the front, it's good enough for the back. The one durability video I've seen clearly shows that the device stopped working long before they managed to crack the glass - I'd say that's strong enough for my needs.

Last time I dropped my phone, it was my Treo, and the plastic and buttons flew everywhere. Just dropped it on the sidewalk.

So this thread is so stupid, it's beyond comprehension really. I mean the word stupid can't even begin to describe it.

The glass is strong, and it's as flexible as glass can be on a phone at the moment.

But the moral of the story is, DON'T DROP YOUR FLIPPING PHONE!

We need the Samsonite Gorilla to do some real testing, but instead of tossing Suitcases, he needs to toss one phone from every MFG, that will be the real test :D
