Congratulations!
Things will just get better from now on. Soon your tastebuds will be able to work properly too, so be careful about your weight. ;)

Yeah, this could be the best decision ever, both in terms of your health and financially.

Wondering if the whole "tastebuds" thing was true, though. I've never been a regular smoker, so I don't really know how it feels to lose (even slightly) the ability to taste food to the fullest.

On the other hand, I have 2 friends who don't have a sense of smell, and they don't really taste food either. :(

I hate the smell of cigs, i cant stand them. Once at a party i decided i wanted to try one, bext morning i woke up and i was sick and i felt really dirty. Hookah on the other hand does not smell that bad, i smoke graps flavor which is very nice to be honest. The only problem is that its hard to stop, unlike cigs you dont feel teh need to stop. I would go on hours smoking, sometimes from after lunch (1:00pm) to just before dinner (7:00pm), and i might smoke before i got to bed aswell.

Very true. It smells nice but it can be done for hours. I go to a hookah bar (don't own one), and then only once a week or less, so that may be why I am not addicted, but it is very true, once you sit down with it, you can be there for hours.

I know when smokers quit they throw away their cigs- did you give away/sell your hookah or did you just hide it? I can't imagine how much harder it must be to try to quit with the device right there in front of you...

I've heard that depending on how long you have smoked, it takes about three years for your lounges to become pink again. I don't have any scientific proof, but I thought I would throw that in anyway.

I think the best thing about stopping smoking is that my lounge is finally pink again. :)

Funny you should ask, i have about 10 of them in my house. My friends always come over and have a good old smoke. I still have them all, still infront of me. Sometimes i feel the need to smoke but i know i will not take that step. I am very hard headed, even when my friends smoke beside me i just look at them, smile and dont smoke. :)

congrats on the quit. I hope you succeed!

you will be thankful you did. The money you saved can go towards a new Mac Pro! Much healthier than filling your lungs with smoke and insecticides.

Slightly off topic, but I had Scarlet Fever when I was a kid, just though I'd share that with you...

Eventhough the "need" for cigarettes will never go away completely, the urge to have a cigarette will diminish day by day.
Good luck! :)

For me the "need" for cigarettes DID go away. I smoked for about 20 years and quit cold turkey 12 years ago. The first couple of years I could have gone back easily. Now you would have to hold a gun to my head, and that probably wouldn't be enough to make me smoke again. I can't stand the smell!! Especially the smell on people who smoke. I have zero cravings and zero tolerance for people who smoke.

Quitting was the single best thing I've ever done for myself. Starting was the worst.

Nearly 2 weeks has past without me smoking, i quit cold turkey. I quit someking a few months back but i started again, it was a mistake i came back harder then i ever had. <snip>
p.s. I have a question, Is it normal to still cough and feel sick even thou i am not smoking?

First of all, congratulations! My younger sister took up the habit in high school and I remember her having a hard time quitting cold turkey a few years later, but then she also had some other issues going on that made it tougher. Ultimately, she ended up having to take some Rx to help her lose the cravings and quit. In any case, I hope you stick with it. The coughing will take some time to subside, but it should get better. Good luck!

I'm also going to quit soon

Does anybody know about or have experience with Zyban?

I figure I could afford a new Macbook within 7 months of quitting.....

Zyban seems like a good option for me, because I am beyond addicted...I could smoke cigs all day....and I want to smoke all day

So, no one knows about Zyban? I need to learn more about it....
