That could only be said by someone who hasn't used FCP.

Oddly enough I have. I use everything and usually do give it a fair shake before I comment on it, which is why I seem to be at odds with quite a number of people on the Internet. Have you used Vegas?

As I said, I'm not a professional. I've found Vegas pretty effective for what I do but as I also said, your choice of hardware will most probably be dictated by the software you choose and that choice will be dictated by not just your preferences but your industry sector.

You said you had used iMovie in your original post not FCP (there is a world of difference). I guess that is where the confusion arose.

OK OK, you caught me. I have not actually used Vegas.

But...

I have been using various NLEs for about 8 years (including Avid on 2 real films) and I feel FCP really just works the best for me and feels the most capable.

I pretty much left all film work about 2-3 years ago, so I'm not completely current with non-FCP editors. I just love FCP!

Sorry, it just seems kind of strange to buy a new computer just because of a driver issue.

Effectively, that is what I did!
Four years ago in December I was sick and tired of re-formatting and re-installing Windows trying to get scanners to work, I browsed the Apple website, went to CompUsa a few days later, walked away with a iBook G3 (which I still have). Was gonna give this "Mac thing" a 1 year trial.
Didn't even open the box the first night, still a little nervous about spending the money I didn't have. Took a couple of weeks to get used to, even had them networked.
One day a couple of months into it, I turned on my PeeCee and all my prefs and settings disappeared, desktop looked like a fresh install.
Decided I had enough, sold all my Windows software and manuals on ebay for $50 (25 pounds worth!), sold the PeeCee and every piece of hardware and Windows related periphials to a friend for $300.
Never looked back, one of the best decisons I ever made.

You're missing the point.

This guy presented a specific problem. His solution involves spending a pile of money. I offered a solution that would cost essentially nothing.

I understand the merits of using a mac. I use a Macbook as my primary computer. I just don't think that switching is the only solution to every problem, especially when there are much cheaper solutions to simple problems.
