I'm not bothered about the fact there are guests; that's perfectly reasonable for the actual Mac-related stuff... it's just why so many lurk around the pictures and community sections - to me that's just creepy. I mean if you're not going to log on and contribute to the discussion then don't eavesdrop on our community conversations or look at our pics! :p

I lurked for a year or so before I plucked up the courage to post on the same boards as edesignuk. :)
And now look at you, balls of steel!

I can understand the photos a little where it's pics of people's setups for those who want to see how the iMacs look in real life rather than Apple's perfectly set up lifestyle shots.

It's the thought of people looking around personal pics that might be more worrying. Then again, it's like folk say - if you don't want anyone to see it, don't post it online.

I must confess in the past to looking for images online for hotels, street areas etc to see what they really looked like. Many of the google links for them were to forums around the web where people had posted pics so I guess I was a weirdo 'guest' for them; I wouldn't have signed up to a random forum just to see what Bright Angel Lodge looked like.

Oh, you mean this place? Yeah, not much to look at, but the view....;)

:D I have one from the other angle... and from the back door which is one of the better back garden shots I've seen :p

What astonished me is that from that side of the lodge, you have no idea that the Grand Canyon is anywhere nearby... when it's only 50ft away on the other side of the building...

We all started as guests. I lurked for a year or so before I plucked up the courage to post on the same boards as edesignuk. :)
Boards? HAHA... LOL!!!
I lurked as a guest for 3 years before I decided to join up. But my lurkage was pretty much limited to MacRumors News and Discussions forum and not much else. I can't really say how I started posting, but it's definitely been the Halo effect and the introduction of the Mac mini and shuffles that finally did me in.

I originally signed up first at Spymac because the people posting in the community section seemed pretty nice and friendly. Turns out I was wrong. Spymac continues to be of major suckage, so I signed up to the next Mac site on my bookmark list, unfortunately for all of you, it happened to be MR. :p

Here's to the Crazy Ones

I think we should start a thread to see who lurked the longest before becoming a member
Pretty sure I'm high up on that list...

Theoretically, the intelligence and depth of discussion displayed by the users of the Mac Community thread should prompt guests to register, and thus we would be discouraging them from joining as members by closing it off. Theoretically, anyway .

i've posted pictures and i don't really mind if they're seen by guests. i don't really care if people know what i look like; i like to put a face with the names too and i'm not "weird" - well not in a scary/dangerous sense anyway. :p

i might not have joined had their not been that feel of community here - and the picture forum (with all those photography and desktop threads) was a big selling point for me at first. i lurked for a few months before joining - and at a few other mac sites too; this one was the best so i stuck around. had all those forums not been viewable by little old lurker me, i might not be here today to bug everyone. :D <gasp>

i love this site, i don't think it would be the same with those forums excluded.

As was stated a few posts into the thread, a large number of the guest are probably just like me and don't login unless they need to post. 99% of the time I'm on MR I'm not logged in. I'm wary of having the computers I use "remember me" and auto login.
