Did Firewire do any particular harm to anyone here? It was comparable and sometimes competitive with USB and offered some unique features. And it paved a pathway to unique function stuff that Thunderbolt touches has. USB, in comparison, has some limitations (never seen a target display or target disk mode for USB).

Yes, and now its day in the sun, like all technologies, draws to a close.

You blast Thunderbolt, which is essentially "displayport with benefits." It's an extremely powerful protocol that millions of people use daily.

Inaccurate. I love TB. I use it for my connection to my LaCie drives and to my ethernet adapter.

Lastly, you attack USB2.

No, I simply want it, like protocols that have gone before it (SCSI,FW), to have a dignified end as the computer industry moves on to USB 3, TB, and whatever comes after that. When everyone uses more of the same interfaces, the costs for the chipsets, ports, cables, and devices can drop. At least USB 3 is common in the Windows world. TB has a long way to go before it has mass use in Windows World. I look forward to the day.
