I've heard of other people calling their credit card company and see if they will cover it with their warranty. Other than that, your friends owe you a bit of change$.

Sorry to hear about you phone man. You have a few options though. No need to buy a new phone.

First, here's how to take it apart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZl5FeZXTwA

The iPhone 3g is SO EASY to work on compared to the 2g. Two screws on bottom by the mic and speaker and the entire screen is free and lifts out to reveal the motherboard. Just too simple.........

Ebay has motherboards for $299. Just pop a new one in. I have a 3g here that I have taken apart within the last 24 hours and it's still fresh in my mind how simple the process is.

If you're not into repairing it, Ebay seems to be bringing between $100 and $150 for water damaged phones so there's a little money in your brick to help you get a new one.

Another option is THIS.

As a final option, buy a used phone on ebay. I have a 3g 8gb here that is sitting here doing nothing I was going to put on ebay, but decided against it as I might sell my 16gb 2g phone and go ahead and start in on the 3g service just to obtain faster browsing while I am out, even though the 3g quality of the phone is horrible. (coming from an engineer, as well as popular opinion)

Dunno what I'll do. I have to make the decision to stay with a mint 16gb 2g or go to an 8gb 3g. I like the way the 3g feels holding it. I didn't think it was much of a difference looking at it, but especially in landscape mode it feels much better.

Oh well, whatever you decide, you have plenty of options. Repair, sell, whatever.

I don't know if you were looking for sympathy or comments on how wacky your story was but it is clear you were looking for a reaction. If your only concern was what the cost of a replacement would be you would not have told the story. You would have simply said that your phone got wet, no longer works and you need to have it replaced. If we are to believe that your only interest in posting was to get advice on a replacement, your story as to why you need a replacement is completely irrelevant.

And I did not insult you with name calling...I'd appreciate you offering me the same courtesy.

So, in short, if you don't want comments on your "story", don't post it.

Did you at all read the thread? I clearly wrote on the first line "Guess I'll entertain you guys with the story."

ALSO, a quick update guys, I buried the iPhone in Rice and set it next to a heat source for 30 hours, I took it out today, plugged it in and to my surprise it works completely fine, tested all the apps and everything DL'ed a new one all that and everything seems to be alright.

Pretty sweet so just know if any of you guys water damage your iPhone there may still be hope. If it dies down the road i'll update the thread but i'm sure hope it will be alright :)

That's great. :)

Do you have insurance? Do they have insurance?

I'm only 22, I'm a college student also. Also in USA iPhone doesn't have an insurance plan.

I only paid like 100$ worth of the iPhone on my credit card as well, so I doubt that would be an option.

It's not a huge deal since the phones fine now.
