This isn't so much a rant but just a little let down and temp inconvenience . I picked up a series 1 42mm sport today. I had a series 0 last year that i ended up getting rid of. But after time i missed it and with the new faster processor & only $299 since i don't need the GPS or the 50 meter water resistance in the series 2.

I realized the watch didn't come with a charger and a cable that was about half the length of last years sport. No big deal about the shorter cable but no charger, really? Last years model had a charger. Apple sells the charger brick for $20 i think which is a bit nuts in its own. I mean should i have just went with the damn series 2 lol? Granted they didn't have any, and i used the $100 i saved to buy a 2nd silicone band and still pocketed $50. So have to be grateful there.

So really i guess i need to go buy a charger so i don't have to swap around with my 6s plus charger. I know you can get the knock off power bricks but should i trust those they sell on ebay? They go for about $5 i think.

I just thought they probably aren't including chargers this go like they do with iPad minis. But the series 2 sport does in fact come with a charger. Oh well i guess its musical charger/cable swapping until i can get one lol. Just thought that was weird series 2 and 0 got one and series 1 doesn't.

Again not a rant, just weird series 2 sports have one, and series 1 does not. Gotta save money somewhere i guess. Business is business.

If you're worried about the quality of knockoffs there are lots of charging stands that just utilize the charging cable that came with your watch. If you want a unit that can function as a USB charging hub, there are some good quality ones out there that will charge your watch and your iPhone.

I have the Series 0 Sport, which just came with a charging cable. I bought a third party stand for about $15 that just uses that cable. I don't think I even realized that the SS came with a stand!

Ah good point, never even thought of the charging stand since just the magnet charger has worked well for me in the past setting it on my nightstand. I think i will go with that. Which did you pick up, since its tested and tried :) I am not a cheapo, i just like to be a smart shopper i suppose. Most times i do go with the higher end accessory but always ask myself after was it necessary haha. Most times not, so $15 sounds good to me!

I have the following, which just works with the existing charging cable. I can't fully recommend it though. It's okay, but not that elegant. I bought it Summer 2015, before there were many good options out there.
https://www.amazon.com/Apple-Charging-Docking-Station-Editions/dp/B010IEDI9C

For it:
  • Cheap
  • Silicone doesn't easily slide, so watch stays put on the nightstand
  • You can wind up the charging cable inside of it when you travel.
Against it:
  • It's a rubber bowl, so not that attractive. Not that unattractive either. It's just kind of neutral, which I guess is why I have not replaced it with something better.
  • Silicone attracts dust and pet hair.
  • The bowl shape means you have to buckle your band so everything fits in the bowl. Otherwise the watch won't connect to the magnetic charging puck properly.
Slightly nicer version of the same idea:

There are probably some third party knockoffs of the better looking Apple model.

Only with Series 2, for US at least. So cheap, Apple should be embarrassed.

I wouldn't have been able to tell you that my Series 0 had come with a charging brick. I have a drawer full of these things. I suspect most people do. Every Apple Watch owner has to have at least one already. I'd honestly rather they dropped them from being included at all and save us a bit of money!

Oh... I didn't realize that is what we were talking about. I thought we were talking about a charging stand or something. It would indeed be very cheap of Apple to leave out the wall plug and provide only the USB cable. Yes, there are some cheap third-party ones that have been problematic in the past (as in fire hazards). I have enough Apple wall chargers (both the small and the large) from previous iPhones and iPads that I probably wouldn't notice whether the new device came with one or not. Still, Apple should absolutely include them.

Wait, are we talking about the charging puck or the plug? Big difference.

SS series 0 didn't come with a stand.

(Even the Edition which cost $10,000 didn't come with one. It only has a modified box that can charge)

I upgraded from 0 to Series 1 and was bummed that there wasn't a plug in the box. I stopped using knockoff plugs when I noticed a faint buzzing sound coming from one. I was also bummed by the shorter cord on the charging puck. It no longer makes it to the wall socket from my nightstand.

My series 0 sport didn't come with the plug when it first came out.

Weird. I'm in the US, and mine did. I got the Sport nearly a year ago [Oct 18, 2015]. It came with the super long [and handy] cable/charging puck, plus a small 2-prong iPhone-like USB power adapter. I wonder when Apple stopped putting the USB power adapter in the box for the S0? :(

I chatted with an Apple rep this morning who sent me over to a supervisor. Just said I'm very disappointed in Apple for not including the wall charger and now I have to go out and spend another $30 or return the watch. With that he said he would send me a wall charger for free so I have it coming tomorrow FEDX. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I really like the Nomad charging stand. Plus, they offer 15% off for first time orders when giving your email address. They say 10% but if you don't use right away, you will get days of 15% off reminders. Speaking from experience. :)

I'm surprised there isn't more of an outcry about this. What if your new to the Apple eco system your options are spend $30 more, use a computer/USB outlet or keep swapping back with your iPhone cable. Those aren't really user friendly options when someone is spending $300+. It's not a huge deal but it feels like penny pinching .

Really, who doesn't have a least a couple of USB wall adaptors laying around the house. Heck you can pick them up for about $5 from just about any store.

Just for kicks I came up with 6 of them in my living room and Kitchen.

Our series 2's came with the charger but we just plug them into the USB port on our MBP and there fully charged the next morning. Never plugged either Watch up.

I would keep using the longer cable that came with your series 0, that is what I did when faced with a similar issue of reaching to the nightstand
