So Spotlight Stopped Searching...?!?!

Hi Everybody,

Running 10.4.8 and spotlight has stopped searching, i type 'calculator' for example and nothing happens, the I click away, and it disappears, then when I click the spotlight menu bar icon again and it shows 'no results found'....any ideas?

Delete the index file and force a re-index

I tried to copy the volume to prevent spotlight indexing but its not registering it in the box, this was following the apple knowledge base instructions. (http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/stopspotlightindex.html#Anchor-Rebuilding-49575)

also my disk utility doesnt seem to work, possible link i think?

disk utility opens and then just loads, but never shows any disks

It most definitely could be related. What recent changes have you made to your system? Maybe boot from the OSX discs and try repairing your hard drive with the bundled version of Disk Utility. Hopefully that version will find your drive(s). 🙂

Same problem

I am having the exact same problem, did you ever get yours fixed? I was thinkin about booting with the os x disks in but didnt know if that would erase all the files I have on my hard drive...

Repairing the disk shouldn't erase any of your files. 🙂
