While apple talked about an 10-core M1Pro in the presentation, the actual base model you can pre-order only has an 8-core CPU. Want the actual M1-Pro that was shown to us? That will cost you € 216,00 extra.

Yes - it's a bit odd. Basically, the 2 base configs for 14" M1 Pro is a 8-core/14-core with 16/512 for $1999. And a 10-core/16-core with 16/1TB for $2499 ($500 more). If you take the $1999 and upgrade to 10-core CPU ($200) and 1TB SSD (200), it's only $400 more. So the difference would be a better gpu (14-core vs 16-core) and looks like a 96W power adapter vs 67W power adapter. Kinda odd, I guess getting the $2499 base model makes more sense if you're going to get 1TB anyways (which I will).

Honestly I am fine with that - I waited for the 14" for the larger MiniLED display so placed my order for 26th delivery.

Even stranger, they give you the 96w adapter for free once you click the 10 core CPU option

I was caught by this as well, I'm planning to get the 10 core CPU + 16 GPU combo I think it's the best bang for buck in terms of performance.

Yeah that's another odd thing...

Ah, that is strange... So basically paid $100 more to go from 14-core to 16-core GPU. Probably not worth it really, but also I imagine the 14-core version is a binned version of the 16-core GPU. Probably makes nil difference in the end... Oh well, I already ordered the 10-core/16-core $2499 version, and paid the steep $400 upgrade to 32GB memory.

Yes, I figured that the cheaper ones were binned, but I couldn't justify £200 for the chip they demoed. I'm sure base will be fine for me - and easier to fine a USB-C monitor that will be able to power it!

Wonder how the silicon lottery will work out for the base M1 Pro chip. Didn't think it would ever be a thing for Macs, but here we are.
