http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_fringing

This is certainly not unique to the camera in the iPhone... Just another overblown 'issue' to drum up page views...

Except, the issue described in this Wikipedia article has nothing in common with iPhone 5 problem. The article talks about purple fringing: "This defect is generally most visible as a coloring and lightening of dark edges adjacent to bright areas of broad-spectrum illumination". The pictures in TC exhibit purple one huge areas - not on "fringes"/"edges".

Still better than the green blob in the center of most of my iPhone 4 photos.
I'm glad to see that's gone!

its just funny how people give apple a mile and other companies an inch. They should both be held to the same standard.

and thanks, I like to play :apple:

That may be true of some people, and especially so of rabid Apple fans on MR, but do me a favor and try not to put your assumptions on me by throwing me in with the lot of 'em.

Thanks. ;)

I have it to. As I read this board I am in shock and awe at the level of complacency and apathy some people feel toward what is clearly a major malfunction in the design. I mean honestly how can you people write the things you write in an attempt to defend apple?? This was not free. This is a product that we as the consumers paid for. We have to demand excellence at all cost. Steve Jobs knew that. You dont short change the costumer because they are a loyal base. Sure, I bet a lot of you dont have this issue with your camera (it was over 5 million phones sold), and I totally understand the provincial nature of the statement : "it's a camera phone, so it is not perfect or an SLR" but honestly guys, it SHOULD be perfect. It cost $326 (32 gig with 8.5 sales tax) As I write this, I am also prepared for the typical tirade of "if you dont like it take it back, or it's just a phone, etc." but as an apple fan I dont feel that the solution should rest solely on the ability to return it or excusing it as just a phone. This was clearly a design flaw which was rushed out as part of hubris from one of the worlds biggest companies. I also write this post as a shareholder , so I am invested in the company. Of course I will now partake in the arduous task of scheduling a genius bar appointment and having a replacement phone that will hopefully eradicate this problem. I will say this though, I have never seen a purple lens flare from a reflected light source on my old 4s.... and those that say they did I please ask to post examples.

Oh my, now I am frustrated. :(. Time to make an appointment @ Apple store. I am curious if all iPhones 5 are showing the same issue.

Curious, why would you make an appointment when clearly ALL iPhone 5's are doing this? You will get a replacement that does the same exact thing. Why not wait and see what happens before jumping the gun and wasting your time and Apple's resources.

Besides, it's not like you're doing a photo shoot with your phone anyways. Lol.

The Lumia 920, as expected, topped every other phone tested, but the iPhone 5 did much better than the top Android phones.

The review should not include the 920 in the test, it is not even out, no one outside of Microsoft even had any hands on experience with the OS. They might as well include the Blackberry dev phone in the test.

It seems that they all do this :\ I will agree that this is better than the green blob.

Yes, all of them will have it. It's NOT a defect as much as it is a property of the lens.

I noticed this today when I was taking some pics of farraris today. It made that glorious red paint kinda purple. I'll post pics when I get home.

After looking at an old video captured on my 4S, I realized it use to do the same thing in certain places.

I can see the apple staff meeting now...

Ok who votes for green blob, and who votes for purple haze...

Purple haze wins.

[Pro-ish] Photographer here, this has nothing to do with chromatic aberration/color fringing IMO. This is definitely a lens flare issue

I have 2 different 4S' at home that do the exact same thing but to a lesser degree. I'm calling normal on this one.
