I like the title of this post. Macrumors saw the video so theyre just like "well this is awkward..."

Hahah.

I remember the first time i turned on my first mac. And seeing the welcome video. It was like "awh yeah" Shame to see it go. This new one just doesnt seem to be the same feeling. Too much like iOS thingy.

Macs are becoming as-easy to use as iOS devices, they are not becoming iOS devices themselves. Taking best things from both worlds is not a bad thing.

Now, about the intro video... I'm sure that in the final public release something will trigger it and it will appear.

"Yes, your Lion gold master copy betrays you. Your feelings for it are strong. Especially for... the welcome animation.

So... there is an OS X Lion welcome animation. Your feelings have now betrayed it too. My OS X developers were wise to have hidden it from me. Now, their failure is complete. If YOU won't brainwash users into loving the new iOS features in Lion, perhaps the welcome animation WILL."

<Snow Leopard Lovers Everywhere>
"NOoOOOoooOO!!!"

It's sort of a welcome animation. It replaces the Apple logo that used to be there when selecting your primary language. This is in the Gold Master, by the way.

No electricity

Oh, thank God! I was starting to panic, thinking that this it a sign of the End Times, that God was smiting us by giving us a OS X bereft of a Welcome animation. I hope there is time to cancel my online order for 1,000 shotgun shells, a three year supply of canned goods, and sixteen cases of freeze dried food for the shelter.

The freeze dried food will not help once the electricity goes off.

Also, now is a good time to start thinking about which family members are not completely essential.

Elegant but I wish there was music still. btw why is there an ugly windows xp window on top of it?

It makes sense they got rid of the video. Since everyone will be installing over the internet now, that's a lot of bandwidth for something all these users are only going to watch once. And I would have skipped it if it was actually skippable (which it wasn't).

Edit: Sorry someone already made that point on page 1 :)

The intro video is only 20.7mb in total. I don't think an increase of 0.6% to the size of the Lion installer will set too many heads rolling.

20.7MB X millions of downloads = A LOT.

Maybe apple saw it as a waste of resources for something that is only watched once.
Although saying that the video is already on most users systems, surely the video didn't need to be downloaded again just incorporated into Lion somehow?

I prefer the old video. Oh well, I guess it had to go in the end. They could have come up with a new and better replacement instead of just that though.

I'm gonna miss that music. Do, do, doo, do! Do, do, doo, do! Do, do, doo, do, dododo!

Yeah, they should've. The video made me feel like I was about to experience something special. It gives a nice feeling to the user, like something epic is about to happen. I'll miss that.

I hope they have a last-minute one planned though, you never know.

Personally I found that whole video to be about 3 times longer than it needed to be. So I'm happy that it's basically gone.

and I can't imagine the employees, who are now supposed to be helping the consumers boot up their computers for the first time before they leave the store will be happy to be done with hearing that song several times a day

My first MR post

I have just registered on MR and thought the perfect place to comment on my first post would be in this thread regarding the Lion Welcome animation. I have always been an Apple fan, and have many Apple products... With that in mind, I have just one question: Why is there so much Apple hate from the Android fans? I can't understand it. I am in the minority in South Africa when it comes to Apple products, and get criticized constantly for buying Apple. I am so over it now. Thought I would join a group where I can at least be part of the Apple family instead of feeling like the outsider. :D

Standard fan loyal base fighting, basically. That kind of stuff goes around, all around the world, for many different machines, videgame systems, etc. So obviously, you have various folks who have some hardware and balk at people for owning something from the competition.

A welcome animation, asides from saying welcome, should also introduce you into the world of apple:

icloud, idevices, touch scrolling etc.

That would be cool and practical.
