I'd guess they would save their best exploit to deal with 4.1 when it comes out. I'm just glad someone is clued enough to do this stuff -- this is quite beyond my league.

The Dev Team specifically said they would only package one w/ ultrasn0w. They are going to compare the two for performance sake and stability I would assume.

It is nice that they have a few up their sleeve - Im a bit surprised that if they found 3 different and explicit exploits that someone else hasn't already found it and tried to release one.

Certainly excited to see.

Not to be a stickler, but dont you think the thread title is a bit confusing for the already confused folks out there:
So there's 2-3 different ways/hacks available to unlock an iphone4?

Oh well - we're cool, no need to fight.

After thinking about it (yes... THINKING) I agree with you.

4.0.1 seemed like a dummy release to me to, among so many other things, to get the deve team to blow their load.

Will be interesting to see - thanks for your comment.

I wish they would take their time with this upcoming JB and include the Hacktivation process.

this development doesn't help 3gs users or does it? the once they are waiting to go to 4.x?

dev team jailbreak (ie, newest "spirit like" release) will work with all/most models (not sure about iPod Touches and 2g iphones). It will help 3gs users but the packaged exploit probably wont be the same.

ultrasn0w already works on the 3gs, it's just a matter of getting a jailbreak for it for those on 4.0.

The iphone 4 baseband is completelly different than previous 3G and 3GS models. So these exploits on the i4 wont work for earlier phones.
But it doesnt mean that they dont have any more aces up their sleeves:)

Exactly, new chip = new holes and older holes are left wide open. Open enough to payload in the unlock.

to the questions point though, 3GS users arent SOL - they just need the newest Jailbreak and then we can use ultrasn0w.

But the exploit for the ip4 4.0 isn't the same - just like you said. :)

I don't think you understand what you're talking about. Comex' upcoming jailbreak will not hacktivate the phone not because he is rushing it out, but because that is the fundamental nature of a userland jailbreak. The exploit is applied after the OS is loaded...after activation takes place. In order to hacktivate, a new bootrom exploit will have to be found, something that has not yet happened.

Exactly. A userland jb will never get that deep to hactivate it. It will need a bootrom exploit. And since activating with any activated or inactive sim is easy and just takes a minute it's no biggie IMO.
