Engadget's speculating that the 2.0 version released today was really meant for 3G iPhones (hence all the shoddy performance people are experiencing). Anymore word on this?
Maybe, maybe not. This is why you people should wait for the official release.![]()
Not really sure... if it's the case, how hard would it be to load the "official" software? I imagine you would have to downgrade to 1.1.4 first though, which could be a pain.

No, its fairly simple to downgrade.
If this version wasn't meant for the first gen iPhone, how come there is no option to turn off 3G?
Pretty sure the screen flicker was your phone calibrating itself for the single ambient light sensor, instead of the 2 in the 2nd gen phone.

I'm beginning to think it is the incorrect version. I'm getting a ton of lag, and the black dot where Edge should be. Also, I think the file name shows it's incorrect. Filename starts 1,2, whereas all the other firmware updates were 1,1.
Major/Minor hardware version.
4/8/16GB iPhones were 1,1
New 3G iPhones must be 1,2
Same numbering scheme for all Apple Hardware, iMac, Macbook, etc.
Actually, I think the 3Gs are 2,2 where as the first iPhones were 1,1 (for 1.x firmware versions) or 1,2 (for version 2.0).
