But you are making it sound like only the 3GS can do MMS in your original post.

Then you spin it to talk about the date.

Bottom line:

3GS Has these things that the iPhone 3G does not:

1) "Twice as fast by magic" whatever the $%^&YU* that means.

2) Video Recording

3) Compass

4) Voice Commands

5) 1 more MP on the Camera and Auto Focus

6) Slightly better Battery Life

That's it.

Those are the only 6 advantages to getting the new phone.

1.The "twice as fast" thing is probably bogus. If it is faster, it won't be that noticeable.

2. You can just jailbreak and get Cycorder. I haven't personally used it, so I don't know if you can do video editing (what is the need for that anyways), and I don't know if there will be a way to send it in a MMS, but it at least records video.

3. Ooh wow, a compass? We totally will miss that.

4. Voice commands? Somebody will probably come up with a jailbreak app for it if they haven't yet.

5. No big deal.

6. This and 8GB more are like the only changes to the new iPhone.

Maybe it's just me and my enjoyment of saving money, but the 3GS doesn't seem worth it.

TomTom has made navigation available for your iPhone 3G. All you need is:

the TomTom app including the latest maps
(coming soon to the iTunes App Store)

the TomTom car kit that offers secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions and hands-free calling, while charging your iPhone at the same time.
I wonder how it is going to do that on a regular 3G with no voice controls?

And I wonder how the app is going to handle incoming calls since the iPhone normally doesn't allow background processes from non-Apple apps?

Can't wait to find out!

Maybe the voice control hardware is in the cradle?

I always get calls while I'm playing a game or in an app.....

Yes, I read that and that is why I asked the question actually.

If the Cradle handles it and makes it possible, then I am going to buy that cradle whether I get their software or not, if it will work without it. (Not likely.)

I agree, I am thinking the price of the cradle will be more than I want to pay though especially if you purchase both separately, but maybe the app is free when you buy the cradle? Cross Fingers.

The 3GS was definitely not as significant as all the rumors led us to believe it was. Apple even acknowledged this by essentially keeping the same name.

You'll be missing very, very little by not upgrading. You're better off waiting until Apple has a more significant upgrade next year, and possibly a Verizon CDMA iPhone so you can finally leave AT&T's worthless service.

It's a hardware thing - the faster chipset allows them to analyze your voice much faster than it could be done on the current one.

Voice Dialers are already available for iPhone 3G.
And they work well.

So why do I need Voice Control? To control the iPod by voice?
Don't really do that.

Video- can a 3rd party release a video app or will Apple ban it?
There is NO reason video shouldn't be available on iPhone 3G. Who needs the trim/scrub stuff? Just plain old video recording.

do any of you guys think that someone will be able to hack the firmware for a 3GSto bring the software-removed features to the 3G?? I'm no genius when it comes to this sort of thing, so please be nice... :)
