Before the iPad came out some people were talking about finding wallpaper that will fill the iPad screen. One person said you need to use 1024x1024 so when you use it in Portrait and Landscape mode, the wallpaper won't have black bars. So can you use 1024x768 wallpaper or will it not look right when you use it in landscape? Thanks.

When the iPad rotates it crops 128 pixels on each of two sides. So you image viewing size depending on orientation is either 1024x768 or 768x1024. In order to avoid the black bars the image should be 1024x1024 with the focus on the 768x768 region.

Yeah, just find your favorite desktop wallpaper and crop a 1024x1024 section of it, that's what I've been doing.

I created a few 1024x1024 wallpapers but after the "optimizing photos" during the sync they don't look as good as they should

    Any ideas on this>?

iTunes optimizes photos as they moved over to the iPad. I made a project in Aperture and saved all the iPad wallpaper in there. Synced the iPad and the images don't look as good as they did on my MacBook Pro
