I have a 2.7 Ghz, 8 GB Ram, 256 GB SSD storage 2015 MacBook Pro... The machine runs great, but I would like to replace it with a more modern MacBook that will last for several years and weight a bit less. Not interested in the 16“ big boy. When the MacBook Air was released, a lot were saying it was underpowered. This new MacBook Pro doesn’t look that much more powerful at the base level. It seems like I would need to pay at least $1,700 for a machine that will do what my 2015 did (a good productivity laptop that lasts a long time). Is that fair? Could I settle for a MacBook Air?

If your current machine runs so well why not wait another year for a 14" ARM-powered MacBook? How would you feel if you bought a 2020 MBA or slightly-upgraded 13" MBP before you needed one only for something amazing to come out next?

The saying goes if you need a computer today buy one because there's always something better around the corner. But you don't seem like you need a new computer at all.

If I was in your situation and was being forced to buy a new computer, with the exception of being a video editor, I would choose a MacBook Air.

I agree. I would stick with your current machine especially since you’re not having any problems with it. The 2015s aren’t that old in the grand scheme of things. They will continue to run everything for years still and the size and weight difference isn’t as big as you might think. I’d hold out for a bigger upgrade further down the road.
