- There's no 'paper' anymore in the Trash icon in the dock if there are files in your trash folder. This kinda annoys me, because this way you can't instantly see if there's something there.

I'm not seeing this issue at all - the trash icon works as it used to here. Scrolling is improved, the menu bar flicker when swiping between desktops has now gone; overall I'm very happy, nothing is broken, many things are improved, and it's free.

Cos some people rely on their macs to get work done.
An app not working in a new OS can be a major pain.

Hope you're not advising others on their computer needs.

Looks like iPhoto may be OK (which is probably why that's the only app that replaces the old; iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote all leave the originals so you can fall back when you discover the missing features!)
